3. Line Description
This picture has a strong composition when it comes to lines. The picture
speaks lines. My eye goes to the middle that looks like a cross with the first
two light pink lines. Then the next two dark pink lines that make an “X” The
lines in the paintings move my eye to make that “X”. From there my eye
goes to the light purple/pink lines that draw my eye seeing that it makes a
fat “X”. After that my eyes move toward the end with the purple lines
making a skinny “X”. Throughout the whole painting when I would see the
lines individually by color my eyes in general would look at those lines from
the top down. I think the artist did a really good job in this aspect when it
came to the lines so the onlooker didn’t get confused with just one color. I
like how the lines drive this picture, and I definitely have those being the
center of my attention with this picture.
5. Proportion Description
This painting does a great job when it comes to proportion. You have a
bigger image of a man who has a halo above his head. He also has
faded red clothes. The next image is that of a smaller man above
the clouds. Dressed in gold with what looks like angels flying
around him.
When looking this painting my eye immediately goes to the larger
image of the man. I think it’s because with proportion, this image is
bigger and bigger images catch my eye before smaller images do.
The angle of the man then moves my eye up to his halo and into
the clouds to the smaller scale sized man. The man if brought down
to the other guys level is probably the same size, but because he is
up in the clouds the artist did a really good proportion job in
making him this size. Then my eye goes to the angels who are
shown to be smaller then the guy who we’ll just call God.
7. Shape & Form Discussion
I see two shapes in this portrait. On is a white circle, and the
other is a faded tan foot. I think two shapes can make a
picture. This one did. Of course there is the rectangle
boarder that holds these other two shapes. To me the only
thing I am looking at with this picture are the shapes. The
shapes are more prominent then the lines nor is it the
proportions.
When looking at the picture my eye goes straight to the circle.
It might be because the circle is lighter then the foot, or it
might be because I like the symbolism of circles so my eyes
go straight to it. My eye then goes to the leg that is going
through the circle. I think the artist did a great job with
using these shapes and putting them together..
9. Texture & Pattern Discussion
The textures and patterns I see in this photo are all over the place.
There’s pillars, diamond shaped pictures, the fountains, the shape
of the glass windows, and the arches in-between the pillars. The
artist basically threw up texture and patterns when it comes to this
portrait and it made a beautiful work of art.
My eye first goes to the closest diamond picture with the black
boarder. Then my eye searches for the other diamond pictures.
Then my eye goes up the pillars and to the arches. They look so
high but beautiful. Lastly my eyes go to the glass windows and then
the fountains. So my eye pattern is somewhat of a snake. It went
to the middle, then up, up, down, down. The tile floor in which
people are digging up it seems like is the last thing my eye goes to.
With all of this happening the artisit did a great job in making my
eye follow everything and I don’t think I missed anything when it
comes to this picture.
11. Light & Shadow Discussion
I picked this picture because I think it does a great job with
portraying night and day in the same picture using the light
and the shadows. The artist did a great job with the light of
the sun hitting the cliffs, while the shadows hit the land and
the trees on the other side of the lake. Then above in the
sky you have the light side where the land is and the
shadow being with the blue part of the sky which is near
the cliffs. It’s like it goes shadow to light then to move
across the lake to shadow to light from above.
The way my eyes went was the light from the cliffs to the
shadows of the land. Only then do I look up at the sky and I
see the yellow part and then the blue. I guess that means
my eyes go from light to dark better then dark to light.
13. Color Discussion
This picture screams color. Unless you want to look at lines, I
can’t keep looking at the lines, I just want to look at the
colors. My eye immediately goes to the yellow and white
heart. I think it is because it is the brightest color. The next
color that I am looking at after the yellow is the red. The
heart could be pointing down to the red. After that my eye
goes across the page to the light blue. Again probably
because of the lightness of the color. From there I’m seeing
the black/brown circle with the light blue and yellow lines
in it. After that it goes up to the dark blue and then the
pink looking glasses up at the top. My eyes do not have a
strong pattern of movement so I think it depends on what
color stands out to you the most as the onlooker.
