Email Module 5 Lesson 3
E-mail E-mail is short for electronic mail E-mail environments are set up similar to a memo format
Why E-Mail E-mail allows you to create a message on a computer and send it via the Internet to another Internet user or groups of users. The message may be sent along with attached computer files such as documents, spreadsheets, or graphics. Messages can also be forwarded or copied to other users. One major advantage of e-mail is the ability to instantly reply to any message the user receives.
What do I need? In order to send an E-mail, you must have an Internet Service Provide (ISP) You must also have an email account with an email service (may or may not be with your ISP)
Which e-mail service should I use? There is a huge variety of email service providers available.  You may choose to use the e-mail services of your ISP, or you may choose a web based email service like Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo.  A great school friendly e-mail service is Gaggle. Research and test them out.  Your e-mail needs are as individual as you!

Parts of an E-mail
What can you do with an E-Mail? Reply—respond quickly to an e-mail message with the original message included Forward—send the entire e-mail message to others Print—create a hard copy of the e-mail Save—keep a copy for later review Delete—remove the message from your inbox  ***e-mails are forever, they are never truly gone, a copy resides on your ISP server***
Composing a Good E-Mail Message Keep messages brief and to the point.  Always include a subject.  Focus on one subject per message.  Include your signature at the bottom when communicating with people who may not know you.  Never write in all CAPS. This gives the reader the impression that you are SHOUTING at them.
Composing a Good E-Mail Message Be professional and careful of what you say about others. Remember e-mail is easily forwarded.  Don't pass bad news through e-mail.  Don't be too quick to press SEND. Always proof your message. Remember that your e-mail is a reflection of you.  Do not respond to an e-mail when you are angry.
