Teens may feel sad or moody at times. But when the sadness or bad mood lasts for weeks or longer — and when there are significant changes in teen's behavior— it could be a sign of depression. If you feel worried about your teenager, seek depression counselling and encourage them for counseling.

Mental health is an ever increasing concern today. As leaders and teammates we can feel powerless to help those around us suffering from mental health issues like depression and anxiety. Navigating the world of mental health is a treacherous path that can lead you to accomplishing the opposite of your goals, or even ending up with issues of your own. This talk will focus on summarizing a few common mental health issues in the tech / office environment. Giving attendees some tools for recognizing signs, understanding what's going on in their coworkers heads, and being supportive without being intrusive or overbearing. I will also focus heavily on making sure to maintain your own mental heath while trying to help others. I end the talk with a short round table discussion to brainstorm and share ways attendee's have personally dealt with these issues. This talk is for leaders and coworkers that want to be resources for their teams to help them with their mental health and get them up and running again.

Five decades ago, depression was considered to be relatively uncommon. Now, we are told that depression affects up to 1 in 5 people. But what exactly is this thing we now refer to as "depression"? In this presentation, Dr. Terry Lynch sets out why he has created a comprehensive online course on the nature of depression for mental health practitioners. Bottom line; the current prevailing view of depression is seriously flawed. A far more psychologically-oriented approach is required. In this presentation, Terry Lynch provides a glimpse of the comprehensive understanding of depression that is presented in detail in his online course.

Even though depression is so common, there are many misconceptions about its symptoms, causes and treatment. The problem is that misinformation gives rise to stigma and isolation. Individuals with clinical depression often feel alone because others expect them to simply snap out of it or stop being lazy. These kinds of myths can make people not want to seek treatment. Untreated depression also can have devastating consequences like health complications, drug or alcohol abuse and suicide. Here’s a selection of myths n facts you might not know about.

ADD/ADHD makes life challenging, both for the person struggling with the problem, and family members. Because of its genetic basis, it is frequently found in several members of a family. It may co-occur with depression, anxiety or bipolar disorder, making diagnosis and treatment complex. However, it need not stop people from having happy and successful lives. Our speakers will discuss symptoms of ADD/ADHD in children and adults and frequently used medication and behavioral therapies. Coping mechanisms for the parents and sibs of ADD children and partners of ADD adults will be reviewed.
