2. Why is a Resume Important?
Your resume is really your 'first impression'
and just like any real, one-on-one interview,
it's important that your resume conveys the
right “image” of your experiences.
3. What is important on your
RESUME?
A resume is a brief summary of your
abilities, education, experience, and skills.
Its main task is to convince prospective
employers to contact you. A resume has
one purpose: to get you a job
interview.
5. THE HEADING
This section will always appear at the top of your
page regardless of which format you choose. It
contains your name, address, phone number and
email address.
6. EDUCATION
The information that goes in this section is presented in
chronological order, meaning the most recent school you
attended is listed first. Coursework and course projects can
enhance this section but is optional.
7. EXPERIENCE
This is the most important section of your resume. Sell yourself!
List your accomplishments, skills and abilities in a way that creates
interest on the part of the employer. Give them a reason to want to
meet you face to face.
8. EXPERIENCE
cont.
*Use action verbs to help your job
responsibilities stand out! (i.e. managed,
planned, contacted, organized, ect.) Your
resume should be no more than 1 page.
Volunteer work is fine to list here if you do
not have any - or much – paid employment.
9. OTHER SECTIONS
There are other sections that can be added to a
resume including, awards/honors, activities,
certifications (as long as they relate to the position
being sought) skills, languages, etc.
