Personal Responsibility Goes Hand–in–Hand with Success

I define personal responsibility as being in charge of myself. Personal responsibility goes
hand–in–hand with success because it is possible to fail if I am undisciplined with my time
management. Being undisciplined can cause me to procrastinate. Maintaining good health is vital to
my academic success. I must be aware of the consequences of managing my health poorly.
Controlling stress levels ensures that I am focused on my goals. There are perks to managing my
emotions.

Maintaining good health is vital to my academic success because if I am unhealthy, I am likely to
lose focus. Managing my health poorly can lead to a decline in academic success. For instance,
not getting enough will cause restlessness and make focusing difficult. In the article Exercise
Improves Academic Performance Copley is quoted as saying, "Sigfusdottir (2007) found that body
mass index and physical activity were responsible for as much as 24% of all differences in
academic achievement. Dwyer et al's (2001) evaluation of nearly 1 million students in grades 5
through 9 found that those with higher levels of physical fitness (particularly aerobic capacity)
achieved higher scores on standardized tests (this effect was strongest for mathematics tests).
Shepherd (1997) found that reducing academic class time by 240 minutes per week and replacing it
with physical activity increased scores on standardized math tests."

Although personal responsibility is a perception of ideas or standards established by society,
personal success depends upon personal responsibility because it promotes accountability and also
reflects on the accountability in our professional lives.
Upholding personal responsibility is the key to success in any type of environment. It is the
commitment to ourselves telling us to get out of bed to get ready for work or to go to class. On the
other hand, personal responsibility is the acceptance of failure to accomplish the task that we are
obligated to. As a college level student, we know...show more content...
The last element I want to discuss because I believe it is the most important concerning personal
responsibility, is attitude. Possessing a positive attitude holds everything together. "Attitude
represents that connection between mind, heart, and body" (Ursiny, DeMoss, & Ybaben, 2008). You
can possess every other kind of quality and apply whatever kind of strategy you like but without a
positive attitude you will get nowhere. Every day we come across conflict and deal with negative
people who will try to make you feel less attractive, less intelligent, and lesser of just about
everything. This kind of negativity spreads like wild fire. Refrain from too much exposure to this
and keep in mind other people do not dictate the outcome of your life. Positive attitudes do not
come easy though. It is a training process of the mind. Every day, the moment you open your eyes
tell yourself this will be a good day full of learning and meeting new people and ask yourself "how
will I better myself and those around me today?" Keep this type of thinking in mind and be the
positive influence where ever you are and people to take notice. They will be more likely to help
you, want to work with you and be wherever you are. Even if for nobody else, you owe it to yourself
to have a positive attitude and to enjoy all endeavors of life.
In conclusion, although personal responsibility is broad term used to describe a set of standards, by

Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is an action or actions taken on by an individual to recognize his or her own
choices and obligations, made in everyday life. Every individual has a responsibility for their own
burdens; no one else can be held accountable for those actions. As college students, we have to
know what is right and wrong by following moral values to allow us to form a relationship to
become successful in college, and follow through with this by forming a plan to practice throughout
our education.
As an individual there is a responsibility to make choices both in education and in everyday life.
When he or she is...show more content...
This comes back to a saying "if you cant do the time, then don't do the crime" (Blake, 1975–1978).
You may also have responsibilities learned by a parent. These can range anywhere from basic chores
such as feeding the animals. This teaches a responsibility to care for someone/something else whom
cannot care for them.
Finally you need to put into place a plan to execute these responsibilities. A particular plan that I
have in mind in relevance to education and career responsibilities would be to plan ahead, be
organized, and stay on track. This will allow you to prioritize all your assignments/workload to
prepare yourself incase an emergency appears and to keep you from procrastinating allowing
your grade to suffer. However in relating to moral values, a plan must be set from a young age;
this can either be set by your parents leading my example or by yourself. If you are setting that plan
yourself you may need to recognize yourself as a monarch (someone of higher title) not to allow
others to diminish your beliefs.
In conclusion personal responsibility is an action, an obligation, and a choice in a persons
everyday life; that holds us accountable for our actions. Knowing what is right and wrong by
owning up to our burdens and by moral values set forth either by past personal experience or by
moral values set through religious background requires you to set aside a plan to practice throughout
your educational experiences to be

What is personal responsibility? Some examples people would probably come up with would be
these: working, chores, taking care of your family and some might even say going to school and
getting a better education. The definition of personal responsibility is: the obligation to carry
forward an assigned task to a successful conclusion. With responsibility goes authority to direct and
take the necessary action to ensure success. ("DOD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms").
Personal responsibility to me is taking ownership of the things that will affect us in anyway, whether
it is in the long run or short term. If we do not take ownership of the situations around us we will be

I will take personal responsibility to the next level in my studies. I will make sure everything I
can control in my realm will be completed to the best of my abilities. I will make sure my
responsibilities don't become 'burdens' or 'assignments'. My responsibilities will be complete and
because of the steps I have taken to choose my fate I will have the blessing of making my family's
life easier and I will be happier with my new sense of worth. Because of the direct connection going
to college has with making more money and being a successful person we should all take ownership
of our lives and get educated. According to Julian and Kominski (2011) "Occupation is often the
mechanism by which education is related to earnings. Higher levels of education allow people
access to more specialized jobs that are often associated with high pay. Degrees in many
occupations are treated as job training that may be required for a position or earn the employee
more pay within that position. (p.2.)." The way I see it, I have no choice. I will take ownership of
my life and I will make a better living situation for my family.
In conducting the research for this essay I found various websites and papers people have written
which all fell along the same lines of thinking about personal responsibility. It seemed that anyone
who thinks about personal responsibility automatically begins to list their everyday duties:

Personal Responsibility
To be successful you must be responsible for your actions. Personal responsibility is having integrity,
and taking ownership for your actions. Doing the right thing will demonstrate being personally
responsible and will result in a successful experience in life.
Personal responsibility is taking ownership of your thoughts and actions. To me, personal
responsibility is having integrity. What I mean by this is being trustworthy, to do the right thing all
the time. For example, plagiarizing work, if someone is trustworthy they will do their own work,
rather than copy someone else's and turning that work in for a grade. If someone is to have
integrity, they will also report any wrong doings that they are aware of. If you know of someone
that is cheating or plagiarizing and you do not report the incident, you are just as much at fault as
the other person. Above would be another example of what I believe personal responsibility means,
doing the right thing even though it may not be the popular thing to do. Accountability is another
trait of being personally responsible. Being accountable means not blaming others for your choices
or lack of choices. If you choose not to complete an assignment it is your own fault and there is no
one to blame but...show more content...
Being accountable for your actions or lack of actions will show that you are responsible. Without
being responsible you will not be successful in college, which means that the best decisions for
you were not made. You must relate responsibility to success in college as well as in society. Set a
plan for success. You must set a plan for yourself that will ensure that you have the ability to reach
any and all of your goals. All in all, if you follow you are a responsible individual there in nothing

responsibility is important for two main reasons. First, you need personal responsibility for the most
success in life. Nonetheless, most important, a relationship between personal responsibility and

Taking personal responsibility and paying attention to detail are two very important character
traits to have. It is important for civilians to demonstrate these traits but even more important for
police officers and police recruits. Police officers and recruits should be held to a much higher
standard than civilians because of the position they are in or will be in where they enforce the
laws over civilians. They should be a role model for people to follow. A lack of personal
responsibility can cause many problems. Not only for the person who is making the choice not to

By making decisions not to take responsibility we are endangering ourselves, our future co
workers, and the citizens we will one day serve and protect. If we were to take shortcuts now and
not fully learn skills we will need as officers, we may show up to a call for service and not know
how to handle something such as a domestic dispute and many lives would be endangered because
of it. Recruits should also take personal responsibility for their actions because it shows that they
have integrity. Integrity is the most important thing to have as a police officer. Police officers have
privileges and access to certain things that the general public does not. They should be trusted to
handle those privileges in a responsible manner because they will do the right thing and not take
advantage. It is human nature to want to lie to get out of a situation that could get you in trouble.
However, as recruits and one day in the future as officers, by taking personal responsibility for our
actions, we will tell the truth no matter what the consequences could be simply because it is the right
thing to do. Another important thing to do as a police recruit is pay attention to detail. While in the
academy, there will be a lot of information coming our way. It is important to pay attention to even
the smallest details so that we fully understand every skill that we should be learning. Another reason

my priority. As a husband and a father, my top priority was ensuring I could afford to provide for
my family. I decided to start a home business when I decided to attend college, I never thought of
implementing a plan with my family. I felt only attending school one day a week, I could
complete my assignments without intensive research. Also, I felt my children sports (soccer and
baseball), were more important. Since I coach a little league baseball team and my wife attends
school in Ontario and works in San Diego, I felt taking our children to their respective practices
and games were more important than my academic requirements. After attending the first class
and looking at the class syllabus, I knew some changes were needed if I was going to be able to
succeed in this class. It was time to implement a plan for me and my family. With both my wife
and I working, and attending school, and with no babysitter, ensuring our two children were going

we are all doomed for failure on the battlefield or in an office environment that I work in now we
all have the simple responsibilities. By showing this type of irresponsibility on the battlefield it

By organizing I can set the steps in each category, short, intermediate, and long term, with each step
leading toward my ultimate long term goal. After all isn 't that what we all want, to set ourselves up
to reach the ultimate long term goal. Once I have organized my goals, I will then prioritize them.
I will rank all of my goals in the order in which I want to accomplish them. I will start with the
most immediate goal first and work my way to my ultimate goal. For example, the most
immediate goal for me is to obtain my degree. My next goal would be to retire from the Marine
Corps once I have twenty years of service. My ultimate goal might be to retire by the time I am
fifty five and move to a tropical area, whatever the goal is I will set myself up to reach it. By
prioritizing my goals, my decision making will be made very easy based on the order in which I
want to reach all of the goals that I have set. Next I will accept the responsibility of completing all
of my assignments in a timely manner, which will enable me to reach one of my goals. Once the
first goal is met then off to the next. By being personally responsibility and making the best
decisions for me, I will ultimately reach the goals that I have set for myself.
In concluding, personal responsibility to me is being true to yourself and sticking to your morals.

The best ways to overcome our fear of personal responsibility is to: 1. Take the time to weigh the
consequence our actions will cause. This can be obtained by applying critical thinking to the
process. 2. After weighing the options, talk to those who will be impacted and inform them what
will happen once the decision has been made. And never be afraid to seek the opinion of others. 3.
You should make sure provisions have been made in order to be successful in whatever we decide to
do. Whether it's through going back to school, attending seminars or constantly reading the new
updated procedures and regulations that are provided.
Personal responsibility is and will always play a vital part in our lives. However, it is how we accept
and act that will determine the level of trust people place in us, but also show the type of person we
are.

Personal Statement On Personal Responsibility
Personal responsibility is holding you accountable for all your actions and decisions. Being
personally responsible means you take ownership of what you do in and with your life. This
means from the time you wake up until you go to bed at night, your life is your responsibility and
yours alone. Your values, morals, and beliefs are all contributing factors in how you view being
personally responsible. If you have been raised and taught to believe that you should consider your
actions at all times, then responsibility becomes second nature to you . For some it may be a little
more difficult to grasp this concept. What we need to remember is that personal responsibility is
important in every aspect of life . In college one has to take personal responsibility very seriously. I
began my college education in my early thirties. I had been out of school for quite some time and
knew that I faced a real challenge. I had to purpose in my mind that I was going to do whatever it
took to reach my academic goals. Starting out I faced several disadvantages , from lack of
financial aid, to self doubt. I had to take charge of what was my dream and find a way to make it
happen. I went to the college after obtaining my GED and just laid it all out on the line. Once I
received my first class schedule I felt I was on my way. That very first class night I had an eye
opening moment. I realized that this was going to take a lot of hard work and determination. I found

personal responsibility and what should be included in personal responsibility. Personal
responsibility is defined as the quality or state of being accountable; especially an obligation or
willingness to accept responsibility, or account for one's actions. Also, personal responsibility can
mean, to be responsible for oneself, one word admit to one's mistakes, make an effort to make
mistakes, make an effort to make those mistakes right, and live in a way that does not harm others
whenever possible. What it means to me is that a person will be held responsible or take
responsibility for their own actions. Also, that whatever actions a person...show more content...
I plan on making sure that I do my best to complete the assignment correct the first time. I will
make sure that I am helping my team complete the job on time. The second preliminary plan to
practice is to use the entire source that is available to me. One of my main sources that I will be
using is the internet. This will help me to find information in any research paper that I might have.
The third step that I plan on using is time management skills, I believe this is the most important
thing I can do. By using this I will be able to complete all my assignments on time. With this
preliminary plan, I know that I will be a success in school.

Essay On Personal Responsibility

  • 1. Gen 200 Personal Responsibility Essay Personal Responsibility Goes Hand–in–Hand with Success GEN200 September 30, 2012 1 I define personal responsibility as being in charge of myself. Personal responsibility goes hand–in–hand with success because it is possible to fail if I am undisciplined with my time management. Being undisciplined can cause me to procrastinate. Maintaining good health is vital to my academic success. I must be aware of the consequences of managing my health poorly. Controlling stress levels ensures that I am focused on my goals. There are perks to managing my emotions. Personal responsibility means having a possessing of duty. It means setting goals and standards. This group acknowledged that parents provide support and resources and that sometimes things outside the child conspire against them, but the predominant factor for their child's success was the child's own efforts and motivation." Maintaining good health is vital to my academic success because if I am unhealthy, I am likely to lose focus. Managing my health poorly can lead to a decline in academic success. For instance, not getting enough will cause restlessness and make focusing difficult. In the article Exercise Improves Academic Performance Copley is quoted as saying, "Sigfusdottir (2007) found that body mass index and physical activity were responsible for as much as 24% of all differences in academic achievement. Dwyer et al's (2001) evaluation of nearly 1 million students in grades 5 through 9 found that those with higher levels of physical fitness (particularly aerobic capacity) achieved higher scores on standardized tests (this effect was strongest for mathematics tests). Shepherd (1997) found that reducing academic class time by 240 minutes per week and replacing it with physical activity increased scores on standardized math tests." • 2. Personal Responsibility Personal Responsibility by Stephen Bruce Foundations for General Education and Professional Success (Gen200) 04/15/2013 Dr. Annette Roter Although personal responsibility is a perception of ideas or standards established by society, personal success depends upon personal responsibility because it promotes accountability and also reflects on the accountability in our professional lives. Upholding personal responsibility is the key to success in any type of environment. It is the commitment to ourselves telling us to get out of bed to get ready for work or to go to class. On the other hand, personal responsibility is the acceptance of failure to accomplish the task that we are obligated to. As a college level student, we know...show more content... The last element I want to discuss because I believe it is the most important concerning personal responsibility, is attitude. Possessing a positive attitude holds everything together. "Attitude represents that connection between mind, heart, and body" (Ursiny, DeMoss, & Ybaben, 2008). You can possess every other kind of quality and apply whatever kind of strategy you like but without a positive attitude you will get nowhere. Every day we come across conflict and deal with negative people who will try to make you feel less attractive, less intelligent, and lesser of just about everything. This kind of negativity spreads like wild fire. Refrain from too much exposure to this and keep in mind other people do not dictate the outcome of your life. Positive attitudes do not come easy though. It is a training process of the mind. Every day, the moment you open your eyes tell yourself this will be a good day full of learning and meeting new people and ask yourself "how will I better myself and those around me today?" Keep this type of thinking in mind and be the positive influence where ever you are and people to take notice. They will be more likely to help you, want to work with you and be wherever you are. Even if for nobody else, you owe it to yourself to have a positive attitude and to enjoy all endeavors of life. • 3. Personal Responsibility Personal Responsibility Alexandria Hopson GEN/200 November 18, 2013 Jeremy NeVille Personal Responsibility Personal responsibility is an action or actions taken on by an individual to recognize his or her own choices and obligations, made in everyday life. Every individual has a responsibility for their own burdens; no one else can be held accountable for those actions. As college students, we have to know what is right and wrong by following moral values to allow us to form a relationship to become successful in college, and follow through with this by forming a plan to practice throughout our education. As an individual there is a responsibility to make choices both in education and in everyday life. When he or she is...show more content... This comes back to a saying "if you cant do the time, then don't do the crime" (Blake, 1975–1978). You may also have responsibilities learned by a parent. These can range anywhere from basic chores such as feeding the animals. This teaches a responsibility to care for someone/something else whom cannot care for them. Finally you need to put into place a plan to execute these responsibilities. A particular plan that I have in mind in relevance to education and career responsibilities would be to plan ahead, be organized, and stay on track. This will allow you to prioritize all your assignments/workload to prepare yourself incase an emergency appears and to keep you from procrastinating allowing your grade to suffer. However in relating to moral values, a plan must be set from a young age; this can either be set by your parents leading my example or by yourself. If you are setting that plan yourself you may need to recognize yourself as a monarch (someone of higher title) not to allow others to diminish your beliefs. In conclusion personal responsibility is an action, an obligation, and a choice in a persons everyday life; that holds us accountable for our actions. Knowing what is right and wrong by owning up to our burdens and by moral values set forth either by past personal experience or by moral values set through religious background requires you to set aside a plan to practice throughout your educational experiences to be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. What is personal responsibility? Some examples people would probably come up with would be these: working, chores, taking care of your family and some might even say going to school and getting a better education. The definition of personal responsibility is: the obligation to carry forward an assigned task to a successful conclusion. With responsibility goes authority to direct and take the necessary action to ensure success. ("DOD Dictionary of Military and Associated Terms"). Personal responsibility to me is taking ownership of the things that will affect us in anyway, whether it is in the long run or short term. If we do not take ownership of the situations around us we will be consumed by duties and assignments which at that...show more content... I will take personal responsibility to the next level in my studies. I will make sure everything I can control in my realm will be completed to the best of my abilities. I will make sure my responsibilities don't become 'burdens' or 'assignments'. My responsibilities will be complete and because of the steps I have taken to choose my fate I will have the blessing of making my family's life easier and I will be happier with my new sense of worth. Because of the direct connection going to college has with making more money and being a successful person we should all take ownership of our lives and get educated. According to Julian and Kominski (2011) "Occupation is often the mechanism by which education is related to earnings. Higher levels of education allow people access to more specialized jobs that are often associated with high pay. Degrees in many occupations are treated as job training that may be required for a position or earn the employee more pay within that position. (p.2.)." The way I see it, I have no choice. I will take ownership of my life and I will make a better living situation for my family. In conducting the research for this essay I found various websites and papers people have written which all fell along the same lines of thinking about personal responsibility. It seemed that anyone who thinks about personal responsibility automatically begins to list their everyday duties: Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. Examples Of Personal Responsibility John DeManuelle 3/17/18 Personal Responsibility To be successful you must be responsible for your actions. Personal responsibility is having integrity, and taking ownership for your actions. Doing the right thing will demonstrate being personally responsible and will result in a successful experience in life. Personal responsibility is taking ownership of your thoughts and actions. To me, personal responsibility is having integrity. What I mean by this is being trustworthy, to do the right thing all the time. For example, plagiarizing work, if someone is trustworthy they will do their own work, rather than copy someone else's and turning that work in for a grade. If someone is to have integrity, they will also report any wrong doings that they are aware of. If you know of someone that is cheating or plagiarizing and you do not report the incident, you are just as much at fault as the other person. Above would be another example of what I believe personal responsibility means, doing the right thing even though it may not be the popular thing to do. Accountability is another trait of being personally responsible. Being accountable means not blaming others for your choices or lack of choices. If you choose not to complete an assignment it is your own fault and there is no one to blame but...show more content... It is important for civilians to demonstrate these traits but even more important for police officers and police recruits. Police officers and recruits should be held to a much higher standard than civilians because of the position they are in or will be in where they enforce the laws over civilians. They should be a role model for people to follow. A lack of personal responsibility can cause many problems. By making decisions not to take responsibility we are endangering ourselves, our future co workers, and the citizens we will one day serve and protect. If we were to take shortcuts now and not fully learn skills we will need as officers, we may show up to a call for service and not know how to handle something such as a domestic dispute and many lives would be endangered because of it. Recruits should also take personal responsibility for their actions because it shows that they have integrity. Integrity is the most important thing to have as a police officer. Police officers have privileges and access to certain things that the general public does not. They should be trusted to handle those privileges in a responsible manner because they will do the right thing and not take advantage. It is human nature to want to lie to get out of a situation that could get you in trouble. However, as recruits and one day in the future as officers, by taking personal responsibility for our actions, we will tell the truth no matter what the consequences could be simply because it is the right thing to do. Another important thing to do as a police recruit is pay attention to detail. While in the academy, there will be a lot of information coming our way. It is important to pay attention to even the smallest details so that we fully understand every skill that we should be learning. Another reason it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

I felt only attending school one day a week, I could complete my assignments without intensive research. Also, I felt my children sports (soccer and baseball), were more important. Since I coach a little league baseball team and my wife attends school in Ontario and works in San Diego, I felt taking our children to their respective practices and games were more important than my academic requirements. After attending the first class and looking at the class syllabus, I knew some changes were needed if I was going to be able to succeed in this class. It was time to implement a plan for me and my family. With both my wife and I working, and attending school, and with no babysitter, ensuring our two children were going to be cared for became a major issue. After carefully brainstorming with my wife and children, we set our weekends aside for family only. No homework, studying, just quality time with each other. In his speech President Obama stated that "we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world and none of it will make a difference, none of it will matter, unless all of us fulfill our responsibilities". I believe President Obama was highlighting the importance of fulfilling our responsibilities if we wish to achieve academic success. • 15. My Personal Responsibility When looking at taking personal responsibility for my actions and events that take place in my life, I think that I have a different viewpoint that most people in our society do. With me being of mixed races, white and black, and growing up in Mid–Tennessee as a child in the 80's and 90's I faced ridicule and discrimination for most of those years. A significant amount of the bias came from my mother's side of the family more than it did anywhere else. I was told that because of me being half black that I would never amount to anything. When growing up I learned to fight for myself, and that no matter what anyone else done I was in charge of my life. By organizing I can set the steps in each category, short, intermediate, and long term, with each step leading toward my ultimate long term goal. After all isn 't that what we all want, to set ourselves up to reach the ultimate long term goal. Once I have organized my goals, I will then prioritize them. I will rank all of my goals in the order in which I want to accomplish them. I will start with the most immediate goal first and work my way to my ultimate goal. For example, the most immediate goal for me is to obtain my degree. My next goal would be to retire from the Marine Corps once I have twenty years of service. My ultimate goal might be to retire by the time I am fifty five and move to a tropical area, whatever the goal is I will set myself up to reach it. By prioritizing my goals, my decision making will be made very easy based on the order in which I want to reach all of the goals that I have set. Next I will accept the responsibility of completing all of my assignments in a timely manner, which will enable me to reach one of my goals. Once the first goal is met then off to the next. By being personally responsibility and making the best decisions for me, I will ultimately reach the goals that I have set for myself. In concluding, personal responsibility to me is being true to yourself and sticking to your morals. Being accountable for your actions Get more content on HelpWriting.net
