The Movie Crash Essay
After seeing the movie "Crash" which was directed by Paul Haggis I seemed to have viewed life
a little differently. I honestly felt like this movie exposed me to different kinds of social and
multicultural situations I could possibly ever think of. The movie gave me many examples of how
these events could affect our society in general. As I closely observed the movie I noticed the
different behaviors it contained one of them that stood out to me the most was prejudice. I
personally view prejudice as a general thought that almost everyone has had at least once in his or
her life.
Within the first thirty minutes of the movie I observed a Muslim man inside of gun store trying to
purchase a gun. The main owner of the store was a Caucasian man;...show more content...
I was truly amazed of how he gathered up all the bad treatment he received from both Sandra and
the Persian guy and turned his energy into something good. It really amazed me how he managed to
stay humbled and mentally strong and not let the preconceived notions about him in regards to his
specific race affect him as a character. His character totally shattered the idea of a middle–aged man
who is blue–collar worker who is always involved around gangs and gang related activities. The
truth is that I was really amazed to see that he actually had a both a wife and young daughter who he
was caring

Essay on Prejudice and Discrimination in "Crash"
While the film "Crash" has several complex characters with storylines that all become
interconnected in various ways, the movie is predominantly about how prejudice plays into people's
everyday lives and how such prejudice usually has negative implications. The characters in the film
all had their own prejudices, or attitudes judging others in negative ways, which set the stage for
discrimination, stereotypes, racism, and scapegoats. Thus, one can see how prejudice plays such a
pivotal role in people's relations with each other. As a result, it is best to analyze this film from a
symbolic interactionism point of view by analyzing how the labels the characters encounter in this
film affect their perception and in turn create prejudice...show more content...
Daniel suffered individual discrimination from Farhad because Farhad perceived him as Latino,
and thus thought he was deceitful and treated him accordingly. Later, when Farhad's store was
trashed because someone broke in through the faulty door, Farhad sought revenge on Daniel
because he felt that he was responsible for the trashed store. As a result, Daniel became Farhad's
scapegoat for his frustration of having a ruined store because he did not listen to Daniel's
professional opinion. Daniel was not the only victim of racism, Peter and Anthony, two young
Black males, were also targets of prejudice and discrimination because of their race. From a
symbolic interactionist point of view, these two men were heavily influenced by the stereotypes
imposed on them. For example, as Jean and Rick Cabot were walking down the street, Jean got
closer to her husband as she passed Anthony and Peter because she prejudged them as criminals and
was therefore afraid of them. Anthony complained to Peter about being stereotyped as a gangster or
criminal because he is a black male, yet then he and Peter self–fulfill this stereotype by carjacking the
Cabot's car. Though the movie does not shed light on the topic of why Anthony and Peter choose to
make a living off of selling stolen

Essay about Plane Crash
When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something
would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled
with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The
simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when
crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After
my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into
the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled
with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four...show more content...
As I slowly turned my small almond shaped eyes I saw greediness of some survivors and I knew
rules needed to be given. As the glowing bright mustard colored sun arose my bright pink chapped
lips began to move. I began setting rules such as everybody needs to help each other, they need to
be fair and not greedy with the food or resources, everybody needs to help on any project that we do
to get rescued. You cannot go past the tenth appletree until we run out of food and lastly if any of
the rules are broken you will not be able to have any food for the day. As I slowly moved my head
in a clockwise direction I saw their faces filled with shock but as they began discussing these rules
to each other they agreed. Three days later, as I was walking back to shore the ocean blue water
seeped through my feet cooling them from the heated sand. As I stood there my eyes widened,
my eyebrows pushed together and I was angered and shocked. David, one of the survivors, was
running past the tenth tree. I quickly began moving, my heart was pacing I could hardly breathe, I
was running so fast that my feet began to burn. I finally caught him stretching my arm forward and
pulling his red filthy soft shirt. I quickly brought him back to shore and called the other survivors.
As his punishment David had to be starved for the whole day, as the other survivors saw the pallor
of his skin, and pain from

The Movie Crash Essay
Writer–director Paul Haggis Movie "Crash" written in 2004, tells an interconnecting story of what
Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Iranians, cops and criminals. Regardless of their Social Economic
Academic or Political background, they are all defined in one way or another by racism. Crash
represents the modern condition as a violent bumper car ride (Variety) which connects stories based
on coincidences serendipity, and luck as the lives of the characters crash against one another. The
movie presumes that most people feel prejudice and resentment against members of another group.
Crash has a world pool of all–star actors and actress, who are all from different ethnic minorities,

"The character is wordy and didactic, yes, but not the film. He is also – as he proves when he and
his partner carjack a young District Attorney (Brendan Fraser) and his wife (Sandra Bullock) –
everything he despises white people for suspecting he is." (Empire) Along his side is his friend
Peter Waters who is played by Larenz Tate, they together begin to steal cars to make a living.
Anthony is the dominant one of the two, since he is older.
The film Crash fits into the categories of Drama, Indie, and Crime. Crash relates to the categories
by including all the characters emotion and how they are individual lives are impacted. How
crime is related in the film is by the carjacking, sexual assaults and as well as the shooting of Mr.
Pena's daughter. The film is not part of a classic. Crash is based on a real life experienced instead of
a true story, "It originated in a dream that I had. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking
about these two guys who 10 years before had jacked my car. I was really curious about who these
two kids were." (HUFFPOST) The film is unique to its categories, because it covers so many
different story lines, and it forcers the viewer to look deep inside themselves and choose which
side they would be on. The viewer can be in this situation at any given time, and it would be up to
the viewers to say would I do this or would I act in a unique way to change my life and someone else

Film Analysis Essay on Crash (2004)
The movie "Crash" – from director and producer Paul Haggis – pictures one day in the lives of
various characters in Los Angeles, all of them from different social and racial backgrounds but
nevertheless connected and intertwined throughout the story. The movie's story is being told in a
mostly chronological way, except that it puts one scene to the very beginning of the film and then
cuts back to the day prior, indicated by the visual text "yesterday". In this first sequence, detectives
Graham Waters and his partner Ria have been rearended when they arrive at a crime scene, leading
to a fight between Hispanic Ria and the accident responsible, furious Chinese Kim Lee, involving

September 29, 2106 Crash Movie Essay Since the beginning of time, the world has been intolerant
of people that are different or stand out. People have an issue accepting others that have contrasting
views, values, opinions, beliefs, and even appearances. Whether we like it or not, there is a little bit
racism in all of us, although it may not be as evident in one person as it is in another. In the 2004
film, Crash, race is portrayed as being an abnormality that negatively sets one person apart from
another, which to this day is a reoccurring issue. Racial discrimination is a prominent theme in this
particular screen play, that touches each character in a unique way. The movie demonstrates that
although everyone is not exactly the same, we are all connected to each other in one way or
another. Each character has specific traits that make them the person they are, yet somehow each of
eventually become linked to one another despite their various races. One of the most impactful
instances where individuals from two different races are linked together is in scene five. Viewers
could automatically be able to detect the immense racial barriers that were existent between various
characters. These racial barriers were evident through the actions of Officer Ryan towards Christine
and Cameron. Christine and Cameron are an ideal example of two innocent civilians who were at
the wrong place at the wrong time. Officer

Narrative Essay On A Car Accident
Life is unpredictable and an accident can happen anytime. on our way back home from church
my dad was driving a black 2012 Toyota Highlander, which is a family car that seven people can
ride in it. My younger brother, Taw Nay Gay, and I were sitting on the seat behind the driver seat
by the door. My other two younger brothers, Gay Nay Soe and Soe K Maw, sat in the seat behind
me, and my mom sat in the front passenger seat. For the first time a nineteen year old girl like me
started to believe that I had a reason to live and my life could be taken away anytime. This

Me and my family was fine. It just that our car got damaged in the front but we can still drive."
Asian man said, "me and my wife were fine too, but our car is not fine because we cannot move
it." I remembered my friend Tim said when he got in to car accident he and the other driver were
cursed and blamed each other about the accident. To me, I felt that they care about their car more
than their life. And they must have forgotten that their cars were not as important as their life.
Therefore, they put their cars first before them. Another accident that I remembered. Karen singer
Gangyi was one of my first male favorite singer. I started to noticed his amazing voice when I
listened to one of the song that he covers. The song called "The Prayer"; he sang this song with his
sister May. Sadly, not long after I heard his song; I heard he passed away during car accident. "This
guy passed away during the car accident not long ago. I saw some of my Facebook friends post
about his death and his family must be really sad for loosed his precious son," my dad said. "Why
must he leave the world so early at his young age? He had not sung more than ten songs yet. He
just started to sing few song and he passed away after that?" I reply to my dad. The

Crash: A Short Story
Crash. One, two, no, three plates hit the floor. I could for all intents and purposes feel my spirit
drain from my body as that sound rung throughout the restaurant. I paused for a moment to
recollect my thoughts, looking up to see a collection of dirty plates, bowls, and pans stacked
nearly a foot high on the shelf and beginning to collect around my feet as there was nowhere else
to put them. With a stack of plates so tall, the grease had allowed a plate to slip and take several
others with it to crash onto the stone floor. Ah yes, this was dinner hour, the busiest hour of the
night, on Friday, the busiest day of the week in general, and it was my first week on the job.
Straightaway came the manager, Rachel, as well as a few of my coworkers. She looked to see glass

going too slow in order to be a perfectionist. In order to survive this night, I knew I would have to
sacrifice my core personality of being a perfectionist, and get a little bit disorganized in order to
kick it into next gear. It killed me inside, but my colleagues were depending on me. I knew
however that if I went too fast, more plates would slip and break. I needed to find a balance of
speed and organization in order to pump out the clean plates as efficiently as possible. I remained

As Daniel explains the situation to Farhad, he is the subject of abuse as a consequence of Farhad's
poor English skills and his own form of racism. Exceedingly frustrated, Daniel throws the account in
a rubbish bin and leaves. Again this displays how Daniel cannot help Farhad, with his door or
symbolically his aggravation. Rather than retaliating, Daniel avoids confrontation and walks out.
Farhad's intent is made clear later when, after being burgled, he searches through the dumpster
before the camera focuses on Daniel's address on the account. A new scene opens with a
slow–motion shot of Daniel's van pulling into his driveway in the side–mirror of Farhad's car,
suggesting Farhad's pre–meditated revenge. As Farhad alights from his car the shot frames Farhad's
gun, as Daniel unpacks his van in the background. This shot is juxtaposed by Lara inside,
watching her dad out the window beside their Christmas tree and nativity scene; a further
indication of the religious and wholesome nature of the family. The pace of the film slows as Lara
dashes from the house screaming "He doesn't have it!" meaning his 'cloak of invincibility'. Just as
Lara jumps into his arms, Farhad shoots and the camera cuts to Daniel's distraught face. Later it is
revealed she is unharmed as Farhad's own daughter has loaded the gun with blanks. Yet again, instead
of abusing Farhad, Daniel simply turns and takes his daughter and distraught wife inside, closing the
door and ending the

The Movie ' Crash ' Essay
The movie "Crash" illustrates the reality of the society in which we live. Race, stereotypes,
oppression, and marginalization played a major part in the reaction of the individuals in the movie,
as it still exists today. Many will say that times have changed and things have become better since the
days of slavery, but I cannot agree that this statement is true. This learner was yet young during this
era; however, my ancestors endured much agony and pain for no particular reason. Today, minorities
continue to deal with misinterpretation of the character without the opportunity to prove who they
are individually; regardless, this reader can identify with some of the stereotypes that minorities
have been subjected to over the years. For example, Mrs. Cabot, the district attorney's wife didn't
trust the Mexican locksmith because of his appearance. Mrs. Cabot assumed that Daniel, the
locksmith was a thug since his head was shaved, tattoos, and pants sagging, referring to him as
Amigo. Because of her cultural stereotype she asked her husband to have the door locks changed
because she felt he would give the keys to guys on the street to come back and rob them. Mrs.
Cabot used Daniel as her scapegoat for her anger towards Anthony and Peter, who robbed her earlier
that night. Earlier in the movie, Mrs. Cabot exemplified fear and stereotype of the men when she
initially recognized them walking down the street. Anthony and Peter were appropriately dressed as

Stereotypes are the organizational factors that virtually shape the way we think in 20th century
America. They somehow manage to categorize some of life's most complex matters into nice distinct
sections. Classifications and organization, at first glance seem to be useful in distinguishing various
aspects of modern life. However, these grouping methods can be very inaccurate, leaving erroneous
ideas in the minds of citizens on a global level. Stereotypes, though originating as convenient sorting
mechanisms, instead, influence our thinking process. Crash depicts numerous characters and brings
them together through carjacking, car accidents and shootings. The movie Crash represents the
nature of race relations in America. Most of...show more content...
Daniel is a hard working locksmith and devoted father who finds out that his looks don't guide a lot
of his customers to trust him. And then you have Farhad, a Middle Eastern storekeeper who is
continually endangered because of the Sept 11 attacks. We then think that all the people that belong
to that group act the same (Haggis).
The main disagreement and conflict in this movie is not between the film's characters but between
the film's content and its structure. Race is a key in this film, and all our beliefs about who people
are get twisted and turned though the complicated plot. With each new extra character we find
another stereotype, and watch as that prejudice is destroyed as the character builds up. In this film
every race is judged based on some general stereotype. The Asians are poor immigrants who are not
important, the Mexicans are thieves, the Middle Eastern are terrorists, the white people are certainly
racists, and the blacks are the gang bangers, and so on. There is not a single character in the film
that is not stereotyped based on his/her country of origin or the color of their skin. Ludicrous, the
angry black man who feels all white people were out to get him, justified holding gun to white
people's heads and sealing cars because he feels they owe him something. The wealthy white woman

The movie Crash proves that a series of events can connect even the most unlikely of people. The
movie demonstrated how racism and stereotypes tie people together and how detrimental our ill

Everyone has a story, everyone has hardships and we cannot discount people simply because they
are different. A great example of this was again with the DA's wife. Her friends that she had
known for years would not come to her aid when she fell, however, a maid whom she spoke to
horribly and being of the Hispanic culture just like the guy who she accused of selling her house
keys, was the only one there for her. I thought it was a great thing that the DA's wife was able to
reflect and admit that her maid was her only true friend.
The racist cop that sexually harassed the black woman when pulling over the black couple was the
same person whose father was in desperate need of help. The racist officer called a company
regarding tests and medication for his father. Instead of being nice he insulted the woman and made
a racist remark based on the woman's name, Shaniqua Johnson. When he met with the woman he
insulted her further and even managed to insult her once again when trying to apologize to her.
Needless to say his poor attitude and disrespectful nature towards African Americans led to
Shaniqua Johnson denying his father. When this same cop risked his life to save the black woman
whom he sexually assaulted but this woman would have rather almost died than have that man

the way he did. . I think that's when it hit him

Movie Analysis : ' Crash '
Paul Haggis directed an Oscar winning film in 2004 called "Crash", this movie basically talks
about racism and the impact it has on the lives of people in Los Angeles. This movie got a good
response from the viewers, as it concentrated on some real harsh realities of racism and asked
some hard questions which are generally avoided in movies. This movie clearly promotes the a
very delicate issue, and hence requires some detailed assessment. I personally feel the movie was
good and it portrayed some very common events of racism, I think "Crash" shows realities, but in a
not–so–realistic way. We do not see any detailed back story to any of the characters, but we know
just enough about them as the director wants us to know. They are a variety of races show in this
movie; African Americans, Hispanics, a Persian family, and Asians. Every switch of a scene is
done to intersect the story of the previous scene with the next one, for example we are introduced
to the Cabot family when two black men steal their car. Similarly, the Persian family, who clearly is
struggling to make in living as immigrants, hires the Hispanic locksmith. These are some of the lead
characters of this movie who are knotted together. This technique actually keeps the viewers
engaged and captivated. All the main white characters in "Crash" are shown to be socially and
economically stable, meanwhile many, minorities characters are shown to have some kind of

Crash Movie Analysis Discrimination, racism, classism, prejudice and more plague today's society.
These horrible issues do not affect one race, sexes, class, ethnicity, or age group; these issues affect
all races, both genders, all ethnicities, and all age groups. For this film analysis, I have chosen to
discuss the racism portrayed throughout a three–time Oscar award winning movie called Crash.
Summary
Paul Haggis wrote, directed and produced the film Crash in 2004. The movie Crash interweaves
several individuals in Los Angeles over a two–day period. The film shows how a variety of different
ethnic characters crosses paths during this period, and...show more content...
Throughout the film, you will observe a wide variety of different vehicles including a four–door
sedan, SUV's, city bus and a mini–van. These vehicles represent the different social classes and
wealth. For example the SUV suggests the individual is of wealth and possibly a higher social class.
While as one character states; the city bus represents the working class who cannot afford to
purchase a car of their own. During the film you will notice that it is Christmas time and you will
observe a nativity scene on the garage door of a home. This nativity scene along with it being
Christmas time symbolizes peace, love, harmony, and forgiveness. Purification and clarity are
suggested by the snow and then again towards the end of the movie with the ash from the fire. The
fire itself symbolizes evil, wrong, anger, hate, violence and even death, all of which are associated
with racism.
Themes
The film encompasses a variety of different themes as well. The issues are all connected to the
different prejudices that are found in today's society. Racism is the most dominant theme that is
found in the film. Stereotyping is another theme that is viewed throughout this film. An example of
this being when Daniel the Hispanic locksmith was changing the locks for the Caucasian District
Attorney and his wife. Jean (the wife) assumes that Daniel is a no good gang banger based on the
fact that he has tattoos, a shaved head, and is Hispanic. The film

One must never judge or discriminate a person based on their physical attributes. Prejudice and
discrimination directed against someone of a different race is known as racism. It is evident in the
movie "Crash" directed by Paul Haggis, that people misconceive others due to judgement on their
physical traits. Throughout the movie, the characters living in Los Angeles face the challenges of
fitting in a town populated by people of different colours. The offenders are the "white" people
whereas the victims are everyone else. The presence of racism is the main cause of every conflict that
occurs in the movie.
The majority of the racism involved in the movie is towards the negro population. They are

If he speaks up, not only will he put in jail but he will also be humiliated if his colleagues find out.
Racism isn't only towards the black population of the town, it is demonstrated in many other
ethnicities as well. Jean Cabot is a woman who believes her race, white, is superior than any other
race including black and hispanic. Jean is also very rude towards her maid Maria, and she gets
angry at her over the littlest things. She is also convinced that mexicans are gangsters so, when
Daniel is changing the locks at her house, she demands that they get redone the next day, fearing
that Daniel will sell a copy of her house keys to one of his gangster friends. Farhad, a persian man
with a strong accent, is also humiliated by a gun store owner when he's trying to buy a gun.
The victims of racism realize that the behaviour towards them is unfair so they find ways to stand
up for themselves. Cameron, with his marriage life a stake, snaps at police officers when he is
pulled over once again. Officer Tom Hansen saves Cameron's life otherwise, the other police
officers would've shot him. Cameron was once mistreated which shook his family life and created a
gap between him and his wife therefore, he didn't want the white people to take control of his life.
Daniel, who was always mistaken for a gangster was finally fed up with it. As he was fixing the
locks of Farhad's store, Farhad calls

Description Of A Car Accident Essay
Essay 1: Car Accident The clock read 4:38 pm and we knew we had to be home by 5:00 pm. Ifraz
and I sat patiently in the car waiting for Nida and my sister. As soon as they arrived, we quickly
left on our excursion back home. The sun began to set through the cracks in the clouds and
darkness was creeping in. The day consisted of a few sprinkles here and there which was just
enough to moisten the roads. On the journey home, I was in the driver 's seat while Ifraz was
beside me and my sister and Nida were in the back. We all got lost into our conversations and had
a great time telling jokes to one another. I kept my eye on a dark blue car right in front of us
which seemed to be in a rush. Just as I took my eyes off the car and looked at Ifraz to speak to
him, the car in front of us swerved into the right lane. As I looked back onto the road, I searched
for the dark blue car, but it was already ahead of two cars in the right lane. My vision turned back
to the road in front of me. Just as I did so, my stomach clenched and I held in my breath as I saw a
stopped vehicle waiting to turn left about 30 feet in front of me. Thoughts began flooding into
my mind on how to maneuver around this vehicle. As I looked to my right for an escape route,
another car was right beside me, blocking the getaway. I abruptly pressed on the brakes and all I
heard were the tires screeching, trying to grasp onto the slippery road to stop themselves. Time
seemed to slow down a great deal while we tried

Then Peter brings up the fact that their waitress was black. Anthony points out that just because
she is black, does not mean that she fails to see in stereotypes. He argues that she did not serve

her?" In his defense Anthony claims that with that kind of service, why should he tip? By doing
this, Anthony is just contributing to the cycle of discrimination. She decides not to serve him like
everyone else, so he does not tip her. She is then proven right in her assumption and the cycle
continues. Then a white man and woman (the Los Angeles District Attorney and his wife) walk
past them in the street, and as soon as the woman sees the two black men her arm almost
automatically clings to the side of her husband. They then pull out their firearms and approach the
couple, robbing them of their SUV at gunpoint. By acting the way they did they proved the woman
correct in her assumption. In this scene Haggis shows only face shots so that each characters

prejudice; therefore, for many citizens the American dream is impossible to achieve. Throughout the
movie "Crash" the three characters Cameron, Farhad, and Daniel were stripped of this American

The Movie Crash Essay
Film is an artistic expression that does not always receive the recognition it deserves. A film can
change a person's life, his or her perspective, and the world around them. When people think of the
word crash, they think of car wrecks and injuries, something breaking, or something declining.
Consequently, people do not always consider the other uses: colliding violently with an obstacle,
moving or causing to move with force, or something done rapidly or urgently and involving
concentrated effort. Paul Haggis's 2006 film Crash explores racism's unbounded reach, the film's
ability to make even the most affluent characters seem morally bankrupt, and the belief that every
choice a person makes can impact the lives of others. A story of people

Crash Essay

  • 1. The Movie Crash Essay After seeing the movie "Crash" which was directed by Paul Haggis I seemed to have viewed life a little differently. I honestly felt like this movie exposed me to different kinds of social and multicultural situations I could possibly ever think of. The movie gave me many examples of how these events could affect our society in general. As I closely observed the movie I noticed the different behaviors it contained one of them that stood out to me the most was prejudice. I personally view prejudice as a general thought that almost everyone has had at least once in his or her life. Within the first thirty minutes of the movie I observed a Muslim man inside of gun store trying to purchase a gun. The main owner of the store was a Caucasian man;...show more content... I was truly amazed of how he gathered up all the bad treatment he received from both Sandra and the Persian guy and turned his energy into something good. It really amazed me how he managed to stay humbled and mentally strong and not let the preconceived notions about him in regards to his specific race affect him as a character. His character totally shattered the idea of a middle–aged man who is blue–collar worker who is always involved around gangs and gang related activities. The truth is that I was really amazed to see that he actually had a both a wife and young daughter who he was caring Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Essay on Prejudice and Discrimination in "Crash" While the film "Crash" has several complex characters with storylines that all become interconnected in various ways, the movie is predominantly about how prejudice plays into people's everyday lives and how such prejudice usually has negative implications. The characters in the film all had their own prejudices, or attitudes judging others in negative ways, which set the stage for discrimination, stereotypes, racism, and scapegoats. Thus, one can see how prejudice plays such a pivotal role in people's relations with each other. As a result, it is best to analyze this film from a symbolic interactionism point of view by analyzing how the labels the characters encounter in this film affect their perception and in turn create prejudice...show more content... Daniel suffered individual discrimination from Farhad because Farhad perceived him as Latino, and thus thought he was deceitful and treated him accordingly. Later, when Farhad's store was trashed because someone broke in through the faulty door, Farhad sought revenge on Daniel because he felt that he was responsible for the trashed store. As a result, Daniel became Farhad's scapegoat for his frustration of having a ruined store because he did not listen to Daniel's professional opinion. Daniel was not the only victim of racism, Peter and Anthony, two young Black males, were also targets of prejudice and discrimination because of their race. From a symbolic interactionist point of view, these two men were heavily influenced by the stereotypes imposed on them. For example, as Jean and Rick Cabot were walking down the street, Jean got closer to her husband as she passed Anthony and Peter because she prejudged them as criminals and was therefore afraid of them. Anthony complained to Peter about being stereotyped as a gangster or criminal because he is a black male, yet then he and Peter self–fulfill this stereotype by carjacking the Cabot's car. Though the movie does not shed light on the topic of why Anthony and Peter choose to make a living off of selling stolen Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Essay about Plane Crash When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four...show more content... As I slowly turned my small almond shaped eyes I saw greediness of some survivors and I knew rules needed to be given. As the glowing bright mustard colored sun arose my bright pink chapped lips began to move. I began setting rules such as everybody needs to help each other, they need to be fair and not greedy with the food or resources, everybody needs to help on any project that we do to get rescued. You cannot go past the tenth appletree until we run out of food and lastly if any of the rules are broken you will not be able to have any food for the day. As I slowly moved my head in a clockwise direction I saw their faces filled with shock but as they began discussing these rules to each other they agreed. Three days later, as I was walking back to shore the ocean blue water seeped through my feet cooling them from the heated sand. As I stood there my eyes widened, my eyebrows pushed together and I was angered and shocked. David, one of the survivors, was running past the tenth tree. I quickly began moving, my heart was pacing I could hardly breathe, I was running so fast that my feet began to burn. I finally caught him stretching my arm forward and pulling his red filthy soft shirt. I quickly brought him back to shore and called the other survivors. As his punishment David had to be starved for the whole day, as the other survivors saw the pallor of his skin, and pain from Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. The Movie Crash Essay Writer–director Paul Haggis Movie "Crash" written in 2004, tells an interconnecting story of what Whites, Blacks, Latinos, Iranians, cops and criminals. Regardless of their Social Economic Academic or Political background, they are all defined in one way or another by racism. Crash represents the modern condition as a violent bumper car ride (Variety) which connects stories based on coincidences serendipity, and luck as the lives of the characters crash against one another. The movie presumes that most people feel prejudice and resentment against members of another group. Crash has a world pool of all–star actors and actress, who are all from different ethnic minorities, however they are all prejudiced in some way. Haggis tries to convey...show more content... "The character is wordy and didactic, yes, but not the film. He is also – as he proves when he and his partner carjack a young District Attorney (Brendan Fraser) and his wife (Sandra Bullock) – everything he despises white people for suspecting he is." (Empire) Along his side is his friend Peter Waters who is played by Larenz Tate, they together begin to steal cars to make a living. Anthony is the dominant one of the two, since he is older. The film Crash fits into the categories of Drama, Indie, and Crime. Crash relates to the categories by including all the characters emotion and how they are individual lives are impacted. How crime is related in the film is by the carjacking, sexual assaults and as well as the shooting of Mr. Pena's daughter. The film is not part of a classic. Crash is based on a real life experienced instead of a true story, "It originated in a dream that I had. I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about these two guys who 10 years before had jacked my car. I was really curious about who these two kids were." (HUFFPOST) The film is unique to its categories, because it covers so many different story lines, and it forcers the viewer to look deep inside themselves and choose which side they would be on. The viewer can be in this situation at any given time, and it would be up to the viewers to say would I do this or would I act in a unique way to change my life and someone else Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Film Analysis Essay on Crash (2004) The movie "Crash" – from director and producer Paul Haggis – pictures one day in the lives of various characters in Los Angeles, all of them from different social and racial backgrounds but nevertheless connected and intertwined throughout the story. The movie's story is being told in a mostly chronological way, except that it puts one scene to the very beginning of the film and then cuts back to the day prior, indicated by the visual text "yesterday". In this first sequence, detectives Graham Waters and his partner Ria have been rearended when they arrive at a crime scene, leading to a fight between Hispanic Ria and the accident responsible, furious Chinese Kim Lee, involving race–related insults towards each other. • 6. Analysis Of The Movie ' Crash ' Essay Daniella Volpacchio Uddin Writing & Inquiry September 29, 2106 Crash Movie Essay Since the beginning of time, the world has been intolerant of people that are different or stand out. People have an issue accepting others that have contrasting views, values, opinions, beliefs, and even appearances. Whether we like it or not, there is a little bit racism in all of us, although it may not be as evident in one person as it is in another. In the 2004 film, Crash, race is portrayed as being an abnormality that negatively sets one person apart from another, which to this day is a reoccurring issue. Racial discrimination is a prominent theme in this particular screen play, that touches each character in a unique way. The movie demonstrates that although everyone is not exactly the same, we are all connected to each other in one way or another. Each character has specific traits that make them the person they are, yet somehow each of eventually become linked to one another despite their various races. One of the most impactful instances where individuals from two different races are linked together is in scene five. Viewers could automatically be able to detect the immense racial barriers that were existent between various characters. These racial barriers were evident through the actions of Officer Ryan towards Christine and Cameron. Christine and Cameron are an ideal example of two innocent civilians who were at the wrong place at the wrong time. Officer Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Narrative Essay On A Car Accident Life is unpredictable and an accident can happen anytime. on our way back home from church my dad was driving a black 2012 Toyota Highlander, which is a family car that seven people can ride in it. My younger brother, Taw Nay Gay, and I were sitting on the seat behind the driver seat by the door. My other two younger brothers, Gay Nay Soe and Soe K Maw, sat in the seat behind me, and my mom sat in the front passenger seat. For the first time a nineteen year old girl like me started to believe that I had a reason to live and my life could be taken away anytime. This happened on October first 2017, 7:30 pm when we got into a car accident by the traffic lights intersection. Three cars were damaged, but everyone in the cars were fine....show more content... I remembered my friend Tim said when he got in to car accident he and the other driver were cursed and blamed each other about the accident. To me, I felt that they care about their car more than their life. And they must have forgotten that their cars were not as important as their life. Therefore, they put their cars first before them. Another accident that I remembered. Karen singer Gangyi was one of my first male favorite singer. I started to noticed his amazing voice when I listened to one of the song that he covers. The song called "The Prayer"; he sang this song with his sister May. Sadly, not long after I heard his song; I heard he passed away during car accident. "This guy passed away during the car accident not long ago. I saw some of my Facebook friends post about his death and his family must be really sad for loosed his precious son," my dad said. "Why must he leave the world so early at his young age? He had not sung more than ten songs yet. He just started to sing few song and he passed away after that?" I reply to my dad. • 8. Crash: A Short Story Crash. One, two, no, three plates hit the floor. I could for all intents and purposes feel my spirit drain from my body as that sound rung throughout the restaurant. I paused for a moment to recollect my thoughts, looking up to see a collection of dirty plates, bowls, and pans stacked nearly a foot high on the shelf and beginning to collect around my feet as there was nowhere else to put them. With a stack of plates so tall, the grease had allowed a plate to slip and take several others with it to crash onto the stone floor. Ah yes, this was dinner hour, the busiest hour of the night, on Friday, the busiest day of the week in general, and it was my first week on the job. Straightaway came the manager, Rachel, as well as a few of my coworkers. She looked to see glass scattered...show more content... I tried to tell him that it was alright, but he insisted that there wasn't any time to waste. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. To be truthful, I did feel as though I was going too slow in order to be a perfectionist. In order to survive this night, I knew I would have to sacrifice my core personality of being a perfectionist, and get a little bit disorganized in order to kick it into next gear. It killed me inside, but my colleagues were depending on me. I knew however that if I went too fast, more plates would slip and break. I needed to find a balance of speed and organization in order to pump out the clean plates as efficiently as possible. I remained focused, my hands aching, but my heart burning with determination. One after another, the plates went by onto the clean rack. Time seemed to blur and so did my motions. Before I knew it, the last plate was gone. Who did you feel most empathy for in this film and why? Support your comments with close reference to the characters, incidents and filmic treatment in your answer. The film, Crash, exemplifies fear as a motivator for human behavior and displays that innately everyone is flawed. Our identities are determined by the choices we make and our reactions to others, regardless of class, ethnicity, culture or language. Through the use of an ironic script, symbolism and effective cinematography, Director, Paul Haggis, encourages us to empathize with characters such...show more content... As Daniel explains the situation to Farhad, he is the subject of abuse as a consequence of Farhad's poor English skills and his own form of racism. Exceedingly frustrated, Daniel throws the account in a rubbish bin and leaves. Again this displays how Daniel cannot help Farhad, with his door or symbolically his aggravation. Rather than retaliating, Daniel avoids confrontation and walks out. Farhad's intent is made clear later when, after being burgled, he searches through the dumpster before the camera focuses on Daniel's address on the account. A new scene opens with a slow–motion shot of Daniel's van pulling into his driveway in the side–mirror of Farhad's car, suggesting Farhad's pre–meditated revenge. As Farhad alights from his car the shot frames Farhad's gun, as Daniel unpacks his van in the background. This shot is juxtaposed by Lara inside, watching her dad out the window beside their Christmas tree and nativity scene; a further indication of the religious and wholesome nature of the family. The pace of the film slows as Lara dashes from the house screaming "He doesn't have it!" meaning his 'cloak of invincibility'. Just as Lara jumps into his arms, Farhad shoots and the camera cuts to Daniel's distraught face. Later it is revealed she is unharmed as Farhad's own daughter has loaded the gun with blanks. Yet again, instead of abusing Farhad, Daniel simply turns and takes his daughter and distraught wife inside, closing the door and ending the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. The Movie ' Crash ' Essay The movie "Crash" illustrates the reality of the society in which we live. Race, stereotypes, oppression, and marginalization played a major part in the reaction of the individuals in the movie, as it still exists today. Many will say that times have changed and things have become better since the days of slavery, but I cannot agree that this statement is true. This learner was yet young during this era; however, my ancestors endured much agony and pain for no particular reason. Today, minorities continue to deal with misinterpretation of the character without the opportunity to prove who they are individually; regardless, this reader can identify with some of the stereotypes that minorities have been subjected to over the years. For example, Mrs. Cabot, the district attorney's wife didn't trust the Mexican locksmith because of his appearance. Mrs. Cabot assumed that Daniel, the locksmith was a thug since his head was shaved, tattoos, and pants sagging, referring to him as Amigo. Because of her cultural stereotype she asked her husband to have the door locks changed because she felt he would give the keys to guys on the street to come back and rob them. Mrs. Cabot used Daniel as her scapegoat for her anger towards Anthony and Peter, who robbed her earlier that night. Earlier in the movie, Mrs. Cabot exemplified fear and stereotype of the men when she initially recognized them walking down the street. Anthony and Peter were appropriately dressed as college Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Crash Essay Crash Stereotypes are the organizational factors that virtually shape the way we think in 20th century America. They somehow manage to categorize some of life's most complex matters into nice distinct sections. Classifications and organization, at first glance seem to be useful in distinguishing various aspects of modern life. However, these grouping methods can be very inaccurate, leaving erroneous ideas in the minds of citizens on a global level. Stereotypes, though originating as convenient sorting mechanisms, instead, influence our thinking process. Crash depicts numerous characters and brings them together through carjacking, car accidents and shootings. The movie Crash represents the nature of race relations in America. Most of...show more content... Daniel is a hard working locksmith and devoted father who finds out that his looks don't guide a lot of his customers to trust him. And then you have Farhad, a Middle Eastern storekeeper who is continually endangered because of the Sept 11 attacks. We then think that all the people that belong to that group act the same (Haggis). The main disagreement and conflict in this movie is not between the film's characters but between the film's content and its structure. Race is a key in this film, and all our beliefs about who people are get twisted and turned though the complicated plot. With each new extra character we find another stereotype, and watch as that prejudice is destroyed as the character builds up. In this film every race is judged based on some general stereotype. The Asians are poor immigrants who are not important, the Mexicans are thieves, the Middle Eastern are terrorists, the white people are certainly racists, and the blacks are the gang bangers, and so on. There is not a single character in the film that is not stereotyped based on his/her country of origin or the color of their skin. Ludicrous, the angry black man who feels all white people were out to get him, justified holding gun to white people's heads and sealing cars because he feels they owe him something. • 12. Crash Essay Hadassha Battiste Professor _________ April _______ The movie Crash proves that a series of events can connect even the most unlikely of people. The movie demonstrated how racism and stereotypes tie people together and how detrimental our ill thinking could be to ourselves and each other. The entire movie is laced with coincidences leading to connections and appears to have a somewhat domino effect triggered by the actions or thoughts of another. Ignorance and intolerance divides groups of people and drives the gaps further and further. In the beginning of the movie a store clerk and his daughter are purchasing a gun for protection at their store. The clerk at the gun store starts discounting their intelligence and verbally...show more content... Everyone has a story, everyone has hardships and we cannot discount people simply because they are different. A great example of this was again with the DA's wife. Her friends that she had known for years would not come to her aid when she fell, however, a maid whom she spoke to horribly and being of the Hispanic culture just like the guy who she accused of selling her house keys, was the only one there for her. I thought it was a great thing that the DA's wife was able to reflect and admit that her maid was her only true friend. The racist cop that sexually harassed the black woman when pulling over the black couple was the same person whose father was in desperate need of help. The racist officer called a company regarding tests and medication for his father. Instead of being nice he insulted the woman and made a racist remark based on the woman's name, Shaniqua Johnson. When he met with the woman he insulted her further and even managed to insult her once again when trying to apologize to her. Needless to say his poor attitude and disrespectful nature towards African Americans led to Shaniqua Johnson denying his father. When this same cop risked his life to save the black woman whom he sexually assaulted but this woman would have rather almost died than have that man touch her, his eyes had a look like he had finally realized that he was wrong for treating black people the way he did. . • 13. Movie Analysis : ' Crash ' Paul Haggis directed an Oscar winning film in 2004 called "Crash", this movie basically talks about racism and the impact it has on the lives of people in Los Angeles. This movie got a good response from the viewers, as it concentrated on some real harsh realities of racism and asked some hard questions which are generally avoided in movies. This movie clearly promotes the a very delicate issue, and hence requires some detailed assessment. I personally feel the movie was good and it portrayed some very common events of racism, I think "Crash" shows realities, but in a not–so–realistic way. We do not see any detailed back story to any of the characters, but we know just enough about them as the director wants us to know. They are a variety of races show in this movie; African Americans, Hispanics, a Persian family, and Asians. Every switch of a scene is done to intersect the story of the previous scene with the next one, for example we are introduced to the Cabot family when two black men steal their car. Similarly, the Persian family, who clearly is struggling to make in living as immigrants, hires the Hispanic locksmith. These are some of the lead characters of this movie who are knotted together. This technique actually keeps the viewers engaged and captivated. All the main white characters in "Crash" are shown to be socially and economically stable, meanwhile many, minorities characters are shown to have some kind of financial struggle going on. • 14. Crash Crash Movie Analysis Anjelica McCartney HUM/150 January 18, 2016 Victor Armenta Crash Movie Analysis Discrimination, racism, classism, prejudice and more plague today's society. These horrible issues do not affect one race, sexes, class, ethnicity, or age group; these issues affect all races, both genders, all ethnicities, and all age groups. For this film analysis, I have chosen to discuss the racism portrayed throughout a three–time Oscar award winning movie called Crash. Summary Paul Haggis wrote, directed and produced the film Crash in 2004. The movie Crash interweaves several individuals in Los Angeles over a two–day period. The film shows how a variety of different ethnic characters crosses paths during this period, and...show more content... Throughout the film, you will observe a wide variety of different vehicles including a four–door sedan, SUV's, city bus and a mini–van. These vehicles represent the different social classes and wealth. For example the SUV suggests the individual is of wealth and possibly a higher social class. While as one character states; the city bus represents the working class who cannot afford to purchase a car of their own. During the film you will notice that it is Christmas time and you will observe a nativity scene on the garage door of a home. This nativity scene along with it being Christmas time symbolizes peace, love, harmony, and forgiveness. Purification and clarity are suggested by the snow and then again towards the end of the movie with the ash from the fire. The fire itself symbolizes evil, wrong, anger, hate, violence and even death, all of which are associated with racism. Themes The film encompasses a variety of different themes as well. The issues are all connected to the different prejudices that are found in today's society. Racism is the most dominant theme that is found in the film. Stereotyping is another theme that is viewed throughout this film. An example of this being when Daniel the Hispanic locksmith was changing the locks for the Caucasian District Attorney and his wife. • 15. Crash Movie Essay One must never judge or discriminate a person based on their physical attributes. Prejudice and discrimination directed against someone of a different race is known as racism. It is evident in the movie "Crash" directed by Paul Haggis, that people misconceive others due to judgement on their physical traits. Throughout the movie, the characters living in Los Angeles face the challenges of fitting in a town populated by people of different colours. If he speaks up, not only will he put in jail but he will also be humiliated if his colleagues find out. Racism isn't only towards the black population of the town, it is demonstrated in many other ethnicities as well. Jean Cabot is a woman who believes her race, white, is superior than any other race including black and hispanic. Jean is also very rude towards her maid Maria, and she gets angry at her over the littlest things. She is also convinced that mexicans are gangsters so, when Daniel is changing the locks at her house, she demands that they get redone the next day, fearing that Daniel will sell a copy of her house keys to one of his gangster friends. Farhad, a persian man with a strong accent, is also humiliated by a gun store owner when he's trying to buy a gun. The victims of racism realize that the behaviour towards them is unfair so they find ways to stand up for themselves. Cameron, with his marriage life a stake, snaps at police officers when he is pulled over once again. Officer Tom Hansen saves Cameron's life otherwise, the other police officers would've shot him. Cameron was once mistreated which shook his family life and created a gap between him and his wife therefore, he didn't want the white people to take control of his life. Daniel, who was always mistaken for a gangster was finally fed up with it. As he was fixing the locks of Farhad's store, Farhad calls Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 18. Description Of A Car Accident Essay Essay 1: Car Accident The clock read 4:38 pm and we knew we had to be home by 5:00 pm. Ifraz and I sat patiently in the car waiting for Nida and my sister. As soon as they arrived, we quickly left on our excursion back home. The sun began to set through the cracks in the clouds and darkness was creeping in. The day consisted of a few sprinkles here and there which was just enough to moisten the roads. On the journey home, I was in the driver 's seat while Ifraz was beside me and my sister and Nida were in the back. We all got lost into our conversations and had a great time telling jokes to one another. I kept my eye on a dark blue car right in front of us which seemed to be in a rush. Just as I took my eyes off the car and looked at Ifraz to speak to him, the car in front of us swerved into the right lane. As I looked back onto the road, I searched for the dark blue car, but it was already ahead of two cars in the right lane. My vision turned back to the road in front of me. Just as I did so, my stomach clenched and I held in my breath as I saw a stopped vehicle waiting to turn left about 30 feet in front of me. Thoughts began flooding into my mind on how to maneuver around this vehicle. As I looked to my right for an escape route, another car was right beside me, blocking the getaway. I abruptly pressed on the brakes and all I heard were the tires screeching, trying to grasp onto the slippery road to stop themselves. Time seemed to slow down a great deal while we tried Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Crash: A Movie Review Essay Most people are born with good hearts, but as they grow up they learn prejudices. "Crash" is a movie that brings out bigotry and racial stereotypes. The movie is set in Los Angeles, a city with a cultural mix of every nationality. The story begins when several people are involved in a multi–car accident. Several stories interweave during two days in Los Angeles involving a collection of inter–related characters, a police detective with a drugged out mother and a mischief younger brother, two car thieves who are constantly theorizing on society and race, the white district attorney and his wife, a racist cop and his younger partner, a successful Hollywood director and his wife, a Persian immigrant father, a Hispanic locksmith and his young...show more content... Then Peter brings up the fact that their waitress was black. Anthony points out that just because she is black, does not mean that she fails to see in stereotypes. He argues that she did not serve them because she assumed they would not tip well. So Peter says, "Well how much did you tip her?" In his defense Anthony claims that with that kind of service, why should he tip? By doing this, Anthony is just contributing to the cycle of discrimination. She decides not to serve him like everyone else, so he does not tip her. She is then proven right in her assumption and the cycle continues. Then a white man and woman (the Los Angeles District Attorney and his wife) walk past them in the street, and as soon as the woman sees the two black men her arm almost automatically clings to the side of her husband. They then pull out their firearms and approach the couple, robbing them of their SUV at gunpoint. By acting the way they did they proved the woman correct in her assumption. In this scene Haggis shows only face shots so that each characters emotion is revealed by their face. The Los Angeles District Attorney's wife is freaking out at her husband because they have a Mexican locksmith changing their locks. She tells her husband she would like the locks changed again in the morning because the "gangbanger" locksmith with the "prison tattoos" is going to sell their keys to one of his "homies". She then walks into the all Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. The Movie Crash Essay Film is an artistic expression that does not always receive the recognition it deserves. A film can change a person's life, his or her perspective, and the world around them. When people think of the word crash, they think of car wrecks and injuries, something breaking, or something declining. Consequently, people do not always consider the other uses: colliding violently with an obstacle, moving or causing to move with force, or something done rapidly or urgently and involving concentrated effort. Paul Haggis's 2006 film Crash explores racism's unbounded reach, the film's ability to make even the most affluent characters seem morally bankrupt, and the belief that every choice a person makes can impact the lives of others.
