2. If you want to make a federal holiday you must first send the proposal to the district in which the holiday is related to. The committee will read it three times. Then it will be sent to the Legislation to be passed. If so, it will be sent to the Senate. The Senate will decide to pass the bill or deny it. If they pass it will be sent to the executive, or the president. If he signs it the bill will be passed and the proposed holiday will become federal.
3. Labor Day was established in 1882 and it always takes place on the first Monday of September. The most famous event that takes place on Labor Day is the parade that is in New York City. Labor Day was first started by the Peter J. McGuire, a cofounder of the American Federation of Labor. The first Labor Day was on Tuesday, September 5, 1883. Labor Day is a day to celebrate how much time workers spend on their jobs and how much effort they put into them. It gave workers a day off just to relax.
4. The first Labor Day was Tuesday, September 5, 1882. On that day the Knights of Labor held a huge parade. The parade took place in downtown New York City, New York. The person who made this federal holiday was named Peter J. McGuire. He was the cofounder of the American Federation of Labor. McGuire thought that workers were working too hard so he created a holiday that allowed the people to get a day off from work and just rest. He also did it to honor laborers.
5. A federal holiday that would be important to me and many other people is Public Safety Day. That is a day that comemerates the firefighters, policemen, and Paramedics. Those are the people that risk their lives to keep the world safe and healthy. That day there will be a parade in every state capitol. Firefighters and policemen will be riding on fire trucks. Every public safetyman will receive a badge that has his city, state, and division. I think this will be one of the most celebrated federal holiday in the country.
6. Public Safety Day will be celebrated on August 13th. This is one of the first days in the forest fire season. Many firemen, policemen, and paramedics are called in this month to help stop fires and help the people injured from the fires. I picked the 13th because it’s my lucky number. I thought that maybe that would lessen the chance of fires. Let’s hope so!!!
7. why I was inspired to create this holiday after what happened with hurricane Katrina and what the public safety workers did to lessen the load for the victims. They risk their lives everyday to help others in need. That is why I chose to create Public Safety Day. I thought there should already of been a day that honors public safety workers. But when I heard that there wasn’t, I decided to create one. I think it’s the perfect holiday.
8. There are a lot of religious holidays that celebrate the time that Jesus was around. I wanted create one on people enforcing religion today. I decide that Missionary Day would be great. It would commemorate all the religious people that went to help people that are less fortunate then them. I was inspired to create this holiday because this pass year some people that work at Holy Cross went to Brazil to help the children in Capim Grosso.
9. I would have to say that picking the date of a holiday is the hardest part. I think that summer time is the best time for a holiday. I’ve decided that the date that Missionary Day will be on is July 13th. I picked this date because July was the month that people from Holy Cross went to Capim Grosso. I think that this is the perfect date for this holiday.
10. Missionary Day seemed important to me because it remembers all those people that devote their lives to help others. After Mrs. Hasson shared her story about being in Brazil with the school it helped me realize how hard it is to live in places like Capim Grosso. Missionaries step in to make the load a little bit lighter. Missionary Day day honors those people that help the needy in other places. One day maybe I will be a missionary and help somebody in need!!!
