3. World War I Vocabulary Imperialism--the policy of extending the rule or influence of a country over other countries or colonies. Nationalism--devotion and loyalty to one’s country. Militarism-- a government policy of investing heavily in and strengthening the armed forces

8. 2.)Why is nationalism a cause of World War I During the Congress of Vienna the map of Europe was redrawn to keep any country from ever becoming powerful enough to threaten Europe again. This left Germany and Italyas divided states. Strong nationalists wanted their countries to be unified. This led to tension in Europe. By the 1900s, nationalism had grown so strong that countries were willing to go to war to prove their superiority over their rivals. What is tension?

9. Causes of World War I Imperialism is the policy of extending the rule or influence of a country over other countries or colonies. Countries wanted to own as much land as possible. Land was representative of a country’s power or superiority. Answer the next question on your two column notes sheet.

Triple Alliance included: Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary. It was also known as the Central Powers. Triple Entente included: Great Britain, France and Russia. It was also known as the Allied Powers.
