Why Publish	   Writing is published so it can be shared with others. There are countless ways to publish writing, however, the focus should be on enhancing the writing, not distracting the reader.  A writing group can support a writer by offering suggestions for ways to publish, even pursuing different writing markets.  Students have many opportunities to publish inside the classroom as well as outside. These vary from small sharing groups to entering contests on the Internet. Publish Your Own Piece “Publishing your work simply means sharing it with others.” - Kristen Painter Publishing ideas for consideration: If you decide to type remember that the writing should be the focus for the readers. Use a font styleand size that iseasy to read Adjust page size to fit the piece.  Choose special paper.
Handwritten Calligraphy (cool pens) Record a reading Be sure to rehearse (Make a podcast) When typing is not appropriate
Give copies to writing group  Include a dedication page Gift it to someone who would appreciate it Include name and date Submission to publisher Use style manual Publishing Ideas
Writing Groups Writing groups can be a place to share and find a group of editors who you can trust. If you are ready to share a final copy (readalouds) have copies for everyone. Support for the publishing process.
Classroom Publishing Writing Museum  Pieces are set up around the room for viewing Blank paper for comments. Music playing in background Group readings Writer’s Lunch Read during lunch.  Outside of cafeteria to make it special event Author’s Discussion (for students)
Places to Submit Wall	 Reserved spot on bulletin board – “Places to Submit” Writing contests or other publishing opportunities Encourage “at home” writing. Be available for reading.

Class Blog (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.) Wiki Spaces (www.wikispaces.com) Free for educators Google Site (easiest option) (http://sites.google.com) Class site with announcements Each student can have folder in Documents Parents can see those assignments that are never brought home. Remember to set the preferences to restricted viewing.
Overview of Book 3 sections Writing for Yourself  Writing Groups Teaching Writing 3 Main concepts Teachers must be writers. Havinga writing group willbe supportive for your personal writing growth.  Teachers who are fluent in the writing process will be better examples for their students.

  • 2. Why Publish Writing is published so it can be shared with others. There are countless ways to publish writing, however, the focus should be on enhancing the writing, not distracting the reader. A writing group can support a writer by offering suggestions for ways to publish, even pursuing different writing markets. Students have many opportunities to publish inside the classroom as well as outside. These vary from small sharing groups to entering contests on the Internet. Publish Your Own Piece “Publishing your work simply means sharing it with others.” - Kristen Painter Publishing ideas for consideration: If you decide to type remember that the writing should be the focus for the readers. Use a font styleand size that iseasy to read Adjust page size to fit the piece. Choose special paper.
  • 4. Handwritten Calligraphy (cool pens) Record a reading Be sure to rehearse (Make a podcast) When typing is not appropriate
  • 5. Give copies to writing group Include a dedication page Gift it to someone who would appreciate it Include name and date Submission to publisher Use style manual Publishing Ideas
  • 6. Writing Groups Writing groups can be a place to share and find a group of editors who you can trust. If you are ready to share a final copy (readalouds) have copies for everyone. Support for the publishing process.
  • 7. Classroom Publishing Writing Museum Pieces are set up around the room for viewing Blank paper for comments. Music playing in background Group readings Writer’s Lunch Read during lunch. Outside of cafeteria to make it special event Author’s Discussion (for students)
  • 8. Places to Submit Wall Reserved spot on bulletin board – “Places to Submit” Writing contests or other publishing opportunities Encourage “at home” writing. Be available for reading.

Class Blog (Blogger, Wordpress, etc.) Wiki Spaces (www.wikispaces.com) Free for educators Google Site (easiest option) (http://sites.google.com) Class site with announcements Each student can have folder in Documents Parents can see those assignments that are never brought home. Remember to set the preferences to restricted viewing.
  • 11. Overview of Book 3 sections Writing for Yourself Writing Groups Teaching Writing 3 Main concepts Teachers must be writers. Havinga writing group willbe supportive for your personal writing growth. Teachers who are fluent in the writing process will be better examples for their students.
