  1. __________________, CARES Community Chair #1 Good evening ladies and gentlemen. My name is ___________. I’m one of the community members helping provide leadership to the CARES process. Some of you were at our first meeting. For those who were unable to attend that first meeting, welcome! Thank you for your cooperation when being assigned a table number this evening. This gives you an opportunity to meet and work with different people each time. It also helps contribute to diversity of opinion in each group. Those who were at the first CARES meeting received a packet of informational materials. If this is your first meeting and you would like a copy of these materials you can find them in the back of the room.
  2. _________________, CARES Community Chair #1 In addition to a copy of the State of the District Presentation the first meeting packet includes a copy of our charge from the Board of Directors and our Operational Guidelines and Procedures. Our charge is the reason we are here…the assignment given to us by the Board. We have been given the task of creating a long-range plan that will meet the community’s expectations in regards to the level of service and protection desired by area residents. You will find more details about the charge in the first meeting packet. In order to accomplish this charge we are holding a series of CARES meetings throughout the Fall. It is important to note that these meetings will not be conducive to the format of an open forum or debate. They are work sessions, focused on results and reaching general agreement as a group. We want to maximize our time to be as positive and productive as possible, while still allowing for the free exchange of ideas. The intent is to involve a large number of people that is as representative of the community as possible. If you know of other people in the community who should be involved in this process, please invite them to participate. Thank you again for coming - we’re very glad you’re participating in this very important process.
  3. __________________, CARES Community Chair #1 Now, on to a few housekeeping items, on your table is a sign-in sheet. If you have not yet signed in, please do so now and make sure every person at the table is signed in. This is our way of taking attendance at each meeting so be sure to fill in all of the information on the sheet. Also, please remember that people are invited to join CARES at any of the upcoming meetings, so feel free to bring your friends, family, and neighbors!
  4. __________________, CARES Community Chair #1 As we go through the CARES process, you may have a question that arises in your group or you may want to provide input on an aspect of the process. These questions and input do not have to be directly related to the topic we are studying at the meeting. You can fill out an “I Have a Question” form and turn it in at the end of the meeting. There should be plenty of forms on each table. If you prefer, you may call or e-mail us. You may also ask a community leader or District representative during the small group work activity time.
  5. _________________, Community Co-Chair #1 Also, don’t forget, if you do have to miss a meeting, you will be able to find copies of the presentations, materials and updates on our website, CARES For CFPD dot com. You can also follow Cottleville Fire on Facebook for the most recent news. Now I’m going to turn things over to ___________________ who will review the materials in tonight’s packet.
  6. __________________, CARES Community Chair #2 Thank you ________. As you may remember, at our first meeting, we went through a general orientation to become familiar with our long-range planning process. Following our orientation, we rolled up our sleeves and began to work in small groups. One of our first tasks was to identify and prioritize the key questions we need to address to meet the charge and prepare recommendations at the end of the process. We were impressed with how productive you were in that work session. We have documented all of that and have provided it as part of your materials packet tonight. Please take a look at tonight's packet and let me point out these items. The first item in your packet is a document that contains the verbatim responses from each small group activity at our first meeting. From those verbatim responses we have created the next document which is an executive summary of the responses. Also included are the general consensus points. These are the points of general agreement from all of the work groups at the meeting. The next item is the final meeting schedule that we will go over in a few minutes. The next document is a copy of this evening’s informational PowerPoint presentation. Next is tonight’s work activity and the last items are copies of recent media coverage of the process.
  7. __________________, CARES Community Chair As you can see we are moving through our CARES course of study. Tonight we will take a look at fire district staffing and training. Chief Rob Wylie is going to give us an overview about how the District is staffed, and how training is handled within Cottleville Fire & Rescue. (Introduce presenter)
  8. Once the fire is discovered and reported 1 Minute for FD to be dispatched 4-6 minutes for FD to arrive 2 Minutes for size up and initial attack It is critical for this to be completed in a timely manor due to fire growth factor This is the reason distance to Firehouse counts…Your safety and firefighters safety

  10. 24 hr w/ FLSA Exemption $67668 40 Hr w/o Exemption $75246
  11. Captains require an additional 80 hours of certification training + Associates Degree Assistant Chief an Additional 120 Hours + Min of Associates Degree Chief Additional 320 Hours of Training + Min of Bachelors Degree
  12. Add types of things learned in training
  13. _________________, Community Co-Chair Thank you. Now it is time for us to go to work! Look at the work activity sheets in your packet. There is also a COLOR copy in the center of the table for your group’s recorder to use. Let’s go through the instructions to make sure everyone understands the tasks.
  14. _________________, Community Co-Chair Each group should select a recorder and spokesperson . The recorder is responsible for completing the information requested on the worksheet located in the center of the table. Be sure to complete the information in the box in the upper right corner. These worksheets will be collected before you leave tonight. The spokesperson should facilitate discussions, keep the group focused and on task so the work is completed in the allotted time, and report the group’s information if time permits.
  15. _________________, Community Co-Chair Please make sure the information recorded on the group’s worksheet reflects the general agreement or consensus of everyone at the table, not just the opinion of one or two individuals. Monitor your time and progress to make sure you complete your work in the allotted time. At the end of the session we will only collect the colored worksheet that has been completed by the recorder.

  21. _________________, Community Co-Chair Now it’s time to hear from the spokesperson at your table. We will bring a microphone to your table and try to get to as many groups as possible and still stay true to our goal of getting you out on time. We ask the spokesperson to be brief so we can hear from as many groups as possible. Also, we request that the spokesperson only report the information on the worksheet. Please do not provide personal editorial about the information. Remember—the worksheet from each table will be collected at the end of the session and a document will be provided in your packet at the next meeting that contains the verbatim information from each group. Okay, let’s get started! (Community leader will take microphone from table to table for each spokesperson to report. Be sure to collect the worksheet from the spokesperson when the reporting is finished.)
  22. _________________, Community Co-Chair Thank you for your work! Don’t forget, our next meeting will cover equipment. The meeting will be held October 6, same time, same place. Please make your best effort to join us again, and bring some friends! In the meantime, please feel free to share your thoughts and ideas with any of us serving on the Facilitating Team so we can make this process as meaningful and productive as possible. Be sure to leave any “I Have A Question” forms on your table. Good night!
