Rent a boat and kiss under the Magere Brug. Sit down at a river-side terrace. For a never-to-forget
experience, bike along the river southwards, passing meadows and ‘summer houses’ down to Ouderkerk a/d
Amstel (7km).

Amsterdam has a world-class brewing tradition. visit a brewery with a tasting room such as Wynand Fockink
dating back to 17th century, or Brouwerij ‘t IJ a beer brewery with a phenomenal terrace. Two ‘museums’
honour Amsterdam’s brewing heritage: the Heineken Experience and the House of Bols.

Amsterdam has the most visited Concert Building in the world (classic/jazz/world) and the Conservatorium
van Amsterdam hosts performances by new talents. Cafe Alto is the best jazz bar in town. Enjoy a living
room concert in a canal house, or a concert at music house Bimhuis (jazz/improv) or music temple Melkweg.

Winkel 43 is known to serve the best apple pie in town, but I prefer a ‘koffie & appeltaart’ at Cafe
Papeneiland. Reypenaer cheese its tasting room is worth a visit. For a true acquaintance to Dutch cuisine
have dinner at a Dutch restaurants and a kroket at Van Dobben or Cornelis.

above, to lesser known, small museums - there is enough variety to suit your taste!

The Wertheim park and the Amstelpark are my personal favourites. The Hortus Botanicus is an oasis of
tranquility. Or wander around town and discover a hidden courtyard!
