2. Most important facts:
• STI’s are very common among young people
About 333 million new cases of curable sexually
transmitted diseases (STDs) occur each year among
young adults
• Some can be cured, but not all of them
• Not all STI’s have symptoms, and if they do, they
might not show all the time
Most of the time STI’s have no symptoms, so you can
be affected without ever knowing it!
• They are all preventable
If you don’t have vaginal, oral, or anal sex, you won’t
get an STI
3. Condoms!
When used correctly,
condoms can help
prevent STI’s.
You need to use a condom every time you
have sexual intercourse, and never use a
condom twice.
4. Making sexual decisions
Every individual has to understand and make
decisions based on your beliefs and values.
Those decisions will be different based on
what each person wants or desires.
Recognize that the choices are yours, so
don’t be pressured. But with every choice
you make, comes responsibilities!
5. How to avoid STI’s
There is an obvious way that will guarantee
100% of never getting an STI: Abstinence.
However, if that isn’t an option there are
still ways to help avoid them.
1. Get tested regularly, and persuade your
partner to do the same.
2. Know your limits- think about how far you
would like to go before your date.
3. Talk to your partner- honest communication
is key
6. 4. Don’t drink or use drugs before you have
sex.
5. Be ready and comfortable saying no.
You need to know about yourself, you need to
know about your partner, and you need to
know about condoms and safe sex.
