Paola Guimerans is a PhD candidate at Complutense University in Madrid who is developing a craft-compatible circuit building material kit to teach non-technical people color theory and painting techniques. The kit aims to take advantage of the rise of open source tools and platforms that have enabled artists to develop software and hardware without requiring specialist knowledge. It will incorporate e-textiles and other new materials to allow for creative expression combined with science, electronics, and programming concepts. Guimerans has run related workshops across disciplines at various universities and art galleries since 2011 to explore alternative art learning materials and STEAM methodologies.
