Opportunities
Study
About this Research
CompTIA’s Big Data Insights and Opportunities study builds on prior big data research conducted by CompTIA. The
study focuses on:
• Tracking changes in how businesses capture, store, manage and analyze data
• Identifying key end user needs and challenges associated with data
• Gauging familiarity and incidence rates for big data initiatives
• Assessing IT channel partner perceptions of big data opportunities
The study consists of four sections, which can be viewed independently or together as chapters of a comprehensive
report.
Section 1: Market Overview
Section 2: Bringing the Concept of Big Data into Focus
Section 3: Big Data and the Workforce Impact
Section 4: IT Channel Partner Perspectives of Big Data
This research was conducted in two parts:
• Quantitative survey of 500 IT and business executives (aka end users)
• Quantitative survey of 500 IT firms (aka IT channel)
The full report is available at no charge to CompTIA members. They can access the report by logging into the member
area of CompTIA.org, or, by contacting us at research@comptia.org.

of data silos (29% in 2013 vs. 16% in
2012).
 Large companies report slightly higher
degrees of data silos than medium-size or
small companies.
 Interestingly, respondents self-reporting
their analytics capabilities as ‘advanced’
have the highest level of data
silos, possibly an indication they are most
self-aware of their data shortcomings.
