Royer and the narrator go on a fishing trip together after many years. They set off to White Cap River, Royer's favorite place from childhood. However, the drive proves difficult as the remote road down to the river is barely wide enough for one car and Royer becomes increasingly uncomfortable and fearful. Royer is too afraid to continue driving down the treacherous road and makes the narrator take over. They eventually find a less dangerous path but it is too late in the day to fish, so they spend an uncomfortable night in the car. In the morning, despite the clouds, they feel renewed and Royer inflates their dinghy, hoping to still enjoy some fishing.
