“Oh GOSH! Reflecting on Hackteria's Collaborative Practices in a Global Do-It...
New baby social story
1. A New Baby
How wonderful! You have a new baby in your
family!
Everyone in your family will have to do their
part to welcome the baby and help everyone
in the family get used to it.
There is a lot of excitement and changes when
a new baby first comes home.
Let’s talk about what to expect and what the
rules are for the new baby.
2. A New Baby
When a new baby comes home, there may be extra people in
the house to help Mum, or who come to visit your family and
see the new baby.
We should always wash our hands before touching the new
baby and only pick up or hold the baby if Mum or Dad give us
permission.
3. A New Baby
The only way new babies can tell us that they
need help is by crying – so you will hear
crying when the baby wakes up, when the
baby is hungry, tired, needs a nappy changed
or just feels lonely.
It is Mum or Dad’s job to help when the baby
cries but we can help by letting Mum or Dad
know that the baby is crying.
4. A New Baby
You will have to be extra patient
during this time. Mum will need to help
the baby a lot at first, and you may need to
find stuff to do on your own, like play with
toys or read a book.
Mum will always make time for you when the
baby can. Your extra patience and
understanding will help Mum very much.
5. A New Baby
Sometimes the baby will cry a lot.
Sometimes the baby will take your toys or
do something else that bothers you.
You will need to say to yourself “silly
baby!” and stay calm. Get Mum if you
get upset – don’t get upset at the baby.
Remember babies don’t have very good
manners – they can’t even talk yet!
6. A New Baby
We all have to be very quiet when the baby
is sleeping or napping too.
Ssshhh! Don’t wake the baby!
Babies need lots of sleep and sleep in the
day and at night time too.
7. A New Baby
You will see, as time goes by, that the baby learns
quickly and can be lot of fun. But babies don’t walk and
talk until they are 2 years old, so you must be patient.
Someday, the baby will be big like you! You will get to
play together and you will be great friends – especially if
you are kind and gentle now.
8. A New Baby
A new baby can be the best friend you ever had
– and the new baby is going to learn a lot from
watching you.
Being kind and gentle with our family is very
important – especially with a new baby. It will be
easier if you remember that the baby loves you
and is learning every day. So remember the
rules and enjoy the new baby.
the baby will love YOU very much.
