Course Description:
This course focuses on the assessment of the research process and analysis of the
situation in order to seek out solutions. The different between making good decision
and bad ones will be discovered. This course aims to offer an opportunity to students
to conduct the independent research that is within their interests.
General Purpose:
The course aims at enabling participants to
1. Develop an understanding of traditional and modern approach of business
research
2. Distinguish Between Positivist, interpretivist, and critical research
3. Reflect over your own judgment as a researcher
4. Consider the internal and external factors that influence the research process
5. Able to understand why we should know about business research
Conditions to be able to sit the final exam are:
1. Do not miss over 3 classes during the whole course
2. Submit all the assignments. If you failed to submit any of the assignments you
will not be allowed to pass the course and won’t be allow to sit the final exam.
3. Assignment will not be marked if submit over 1 week late
2. 4. Do not attend field-trip
Assessments
1. Assignment 1 (15%): Due 27th
Nov 2010. Write a proposal
on your business research according to
your interests. You should start with why
you want to conduct this research and is it
worth it to do this research. You can do
this through literature review. Also you will
have to think how to collect the data and
how would that answer your question.
• Assignment 2 (15%): Due: Mid-term:
Based on your proposal: continue your
research with how will you collect data,
how will you analyze it, how will you
interpret it, and is it anyway that you
would interfere with the research that you
are conducting.
• Assignment 3 (25%): Due: TBA: Final
draft: Your final report should convince me
that your research is properly conducted
and it is reliable. Therefore, you need to
look at your data whether it is reliable, and
whether your survey or questionnaire is fit
with your research question. You will write
up the whole process in this assignment
providing the conclusion as well.
• Role play presentation (15%): Last 3
Weeks: Selling product Challenge: A team
of 3-4 will try to sell a product to your
friends using your research skills to find
3. out what type of products would sell well
and how would you do it…. You have 15
minutes to introduce your product and do
a role-play (like advertisement) to attract
customers.
• Final Exam (20%): TBA
• Class participation (10%): Class
Attendance and participation during the
discussion. Students who often come to
class late or do not respect the class
environment will be given lower marks or
zero marks.
