• August 20, 1986
• Shooter Patrick Sherrill (44), a postal
worker, attacked his coworkers the day
after he was fired from a post office in
Edmond, OK
• Armed with three semiautomatic pistols
• Sherrill killed 14 people, wounded 6, then
took his own life
3. COLUMBINE (1999)
• April 20, 1999
• Shooters Eric Harris (18) and Dylan Klebold
(17) first tried to denote bombs, and when
that failed, began shooting at students and
faculty at Columbine High School in
Littleton, CO, where they both attended
• Armed with shotguns, rifles, pistols, pipe
bombs, and propane bombs
• Harris and Klebold killed 13 people and
wounded 23 before both committing suicide
4. VIRGINIA TECH (2007)
• April 16, 2007
• Shooter Seung-Hui Cho (23) attacked
students and faculty at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute and State University, where he
attended college
• Armed with a GLOCK 19 9mm semiautomatic
pistol and a Walther P22 .22-caliber
semiautomatic pistol
• Cho killed 32 people, wounded 17, then took
his own life
5. AURORA (2012)
• July 20, 2012
• Shooter James Holmes (24) attacked
watchers of the midnight premiere of The
Dark Knight Rises at a movie theater in
Aurora, CO
• Armed with tear gas, an AR-15 type
assault rifle, and a 12-gauge shotgun
• Holmes killed 12 people and wounded 58
• He is currently in custody awaiting trial
6. SANDY HOOK (2012)
• December 14, 2012
• Shooter Adam Lanza (20) raided Sandy
Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT
• Armed with .22-caliber rifle, .223-caliber
semiautomatic, and a GLOCK 10mm
handgun
• Lanza killed 26 people (20 children, 6
adults), then took his own life as police
arrived
