Generic Olanzapine (Oliza tablets, manufactured by Intas
Pharmaceuticals Ltd.) is used alone, or in combination with
lithium or valproate, for the treatment of schizophrenia and
related psychoses, for the short-term treatment of acute
manic episodes associated with Bipolar I Disorder.
Oliza is also a mood stabiliser that prevents any further
occurrences of the disabling high and low (depressed)
extremes of mood associated with Bipolar I Disorder.

Generic Olanzapine (Oliza tablets,
manufactured by Intas Pharmaceuticals Ltd.)
is used for the treatment of schizophrenia
(a mental disease which causes disturbed
or unusual thinking, loss of interest in life,
and strong or inappropriate emotions) as
well as acute treatment of manic or mixed
episodes associated with bipolar I disorder
and maintenance treatment of bipolar I
disorder in adults and adolescents between
the ages of 13 to 17 years.

Generic Olanzapine (Oliza tablets )
have to be stored at room temperature
25°C (77°F).
Do not store Generic Olanzapine (Oliza
tablets) or any other medicine in the
bathroom or near a sink.
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

The possibility of a suicide attempt is
inherent in Schizophrenia and in bipolar I
disorder, and close supervision of high-
risk patients must accompany drug
therapy. The smallest quantity of
Generic Olanzapine tablets consistent
with good patient management must be
prescribed in order to reduce the risk of
overdose.

➢ Generic Olanzapine dose has to be
adjusted depending on the patient's response
to the drug as well as the patients medical
problems. It is usually recommended to be
taken once daily before bed as it is highly
sedating.
➢For the treatment of Schizophrenia in adults
the initial dosage is 5 mg to 10 mg once daily.
The target dose is 10 mg/day within several
days.

➢ Bipolar I Disorder (manic or mixed episodes) in
adults: The recommended starting oral dosage is 10
mg or 15 mg once daily
➢Depressive Episodes associated with Bipolar I
Disorder in adults Oral in combination with Fluoxetine:
The starting dosage is 5 mg of oral Olanzapine and 20
mg of Fluoxetine once daily.

Contraindications
Oliza is contraindicated in patients
with a hypersensitivity to Olanzapine
or any other component of this
medication.

➢ Schizophrenia (Adults): postural hypotension, constipation,
weight gain, dizziness, personality disorder, akathisia
➢ Schizophrenia (Adolescents): sedation, weight increased,
headache, increased appetite, dizziness, abdominal pain,
pain in extremity, fatigue, dry mouth
➢ Manic or Mixed Episodes, Bipolar I Disorder (Adults):
asthenia, dry mouth, constipation, increased appetite,
somnolence, dizziness, tremor
➢Manic or Mixed Episodes, Bipolar I Disorder (Adolescents):
sedation, weight increased, increased appetite, headache,
fatigue, dizziness, dry mouth, abdominal pain, pain in
extremity
The most common Generic Olanzapine side effects
reported in patients treated with this medication
with an incidence rate of 5% and more and at least
twice that for placebo associated with treatment of
various indications:

The Generic Olanzapine overdose symptoms
reported an incidence rate of 10% or more
included agitation/aggressiveness, dysarthria,
tachycardia, various extrapyramidal symptoms,
and reduced level of consciousness ranging from
sedation to coma.
Among less commonly reported overdose
symptoms were the following potentially medically
serious reactions: aspiration, cardiopulmonary
arrest, cardiac arrhythmias, delirium, possible
neuroleptic malignant syndrome, respiratory
depression/arrest, convulsion, hypertension, and
hypotension.

There is no specific antidote to
Generic Olanzapine overdose. Hence,
appropriate supportive measures
should be initiated.
Hypotension and circulatory collapse
should be treated with appropriate
measures such as intravenous fluids
and/or sympathomimetic agents.

15. Generic Olanzapine During
Pregnancy

Olanzapine tablets(Oliza) has been
classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy
Category C.
During animal studies with dosages of up
to 9 and 30 times the human dose on a
mg/m2 basis no evidence of teratogenicity
was observed.
Since animal reproduction studies are not
always predictive of human response, this
medicine should be used during
pregnancy only if the potential benefit
justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
