Admenta (Generic Memantine Hydrochloride
Tablets) is used to treat moderately severe to
severe Alzheimer’s disease (AD).
AD can be described as a general decline in all
areas of mental ability.
Memantine belongs to a group of medicines known
as anti-dementia medicines. Memory loss in
Alzheimer’s disease is due to a disturbance of
message signals in the brain.
The brain posesses so-called N-methyl-D-aspartate
(NMDA)-receptors that are involved in transmitting
nerve signals important in learning and memory.
Memantine HCl acts on these (NMDA)-receptors
improving the transmission of nerve signals and the
memory.

➢This medicine can be taken with or without
meals. The initial dose is 5 mg once daily.
Increase dose in 5 mg increments to a
maintenance dose of 10 mg twice daily.
➢A minimum of 1 week of treatment with the
previous dose must be observed before
increasing the dose.
➢Severe renal impairment: The maximum
recommended dose is 5 mg twice daily.

➢In case a patient misses a single dose of
Memantine Hydrochloride tablets, that patient
should not double up on the next dose. The
next dose of Admenta should be taken as
scheduled.
➢If a patient fails to take Admenta for several
days, dosing may need to be resumed at lower
doses and retitrated as described above.

Admenta (Generic Memantine
Hydrochloride Tablets) have to be
stored at controlled room temperature
i.e. 25°C (77°F) with excursions
permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to
86°F).
Keep this as well as all other medicines
away from children and pets.

Conditions that raise urine pH may
decrease the urinary elimination of
Memantine Hydrochloride, resulting in
increased plasma levels of Memantine.
Moderately severe to severe Alzheimer’s
disease usually causes impairment of
driving performance and compromises
the ability to use machinery.
Animal studies have reported
adverse effects of Memantine HCl
on the visual system.

Contraindications
Admenta is contraindicated in patients with a
hypersensitivity to Memantine Hydrochloride or
any other component of this medication.
Admenta (Memantine Hydrochloride Tablets) is
contraindicated in patients with a a current
seizure disorder or with any history of seizures.
Generic Memantine tablets are contraindicated
in patients with epilepsy. Caution is
recommended in patients with a former history
of convulsions or patients with predisposing
factors for epilepsy.

➢Memantine Hydrochloride (Admenta Tablets) side
effects occurring at a frequency of at least 5% and
more than placebo are dizziness, headache,
confusion, constipation, and diarrhea.
➢Memantine Hydrochloride tablets side effects
reported during Controlled Clinical Trials in at least
2% of Patients receiving the medicine and at a
Higher Frequency than Placebo-treated Patients
include Fatigue, Pain, Hypertension, Dizziness,
Headache, Constipation, Vomiting, Back pain,
Confusion, Somnolence, Hallucination, Coughing,
Dyspnea.

Signs and symptoms most often
accompanying Memantine Hydrochloride
tablets overdosage during clinical trials and
from worldwide marketing experience, alone or
in combination with other medicines and/or
alcohol, include agitation, asthenia,
bradycardia, confusion, coma, dizziness, ECG
changes, increased blood pressure, lethargy,
loss of consciousness, psychosis,
restlessness, slowed movement, somnolence,
stupor, unsteady gait, visual hallucinations,
vertigo, vomiting, and weakness.

As in any other cases of overdose,
general supportive measures should
be utilized, and treatment should be
symptomatic.
Elimination of Memantine HCl can be
enhanced by acidification of urine.

15. Memantine Hydrochloride During Pregnancy

Memantine Hydrochloride (Memantine
Hydrochloride tablets) has been classified
by the US FDA as Pregnancy Category B.
There are no adequate and well-controlled
studies of Memantine tablets in pregnant
women. Admenta (Memantine
Hydrochloride Tablets) should be used
during pregnancy only if the potential
benefit justifies the potential risk to the
fetus.
