12. Clean Sky Engines Summary
• Investment in new engine architectures & technology is key to
meeting future environmental challenges
• SAGE in Clean Sky is addressing the challenges through 5
Engine Concepts
• The ‘Open Rotor’ concept is the biggest technology step for
engines and aircraft for reducing CO2 emissions
• We have made significant advances across the front of new
technologies in Clean sky, reducing technical risk
• We are now progressing the 5 concept demonstrator designs
in parallel with the technology programmes
• Engine technologies take many years to develop and verify.
Clean Sky is part of the journey – we will need to do more to12
get to Vision 2020 – and ultimately Flightpath 2050 12
