Lesson 13 Day 1
Question of the Day
Where do you go to enjoy nature?

When I want to enjoy nature, I go
to ________ so I can _______.

T272
Plant It Small, Grow It Tall
When they got to the meadow, Jerome and Felicity put
down their tote bag. Jerome pulled out a small shovel. Felicity
pulled out a small plant in a pot.
“Where shall we plant the little peach tree?” she asked
Jerome.
“Let’s put it over here in the sun,” she answered.
They dug a hole and carefully removed the little tree from
it’s pot. They set the seedling carefully in the hole and filled
the hole with dirt. Then, they watered it from a water bottle
they had brought along.
“In a few years, we’ll be able to sit in its shade,” Felicity
said.
“And maybe make our own peach jam!” Jerome replied.
For now, they were happy to take a break sitting next to

Subject and Object Pronouns

• A subject pronoun takes the place of the
subject of a sentence.

we, and they.
• An object pronoun takes the place of a
noun that receives an action.
• Object pronouns include me, you, him,

T280
Grammar
Subject and Object Pronouns

The children gave the peach tree to Sally.
•
•
•
•

Lets look at the three nouns in the sentence. Remember that they
all can be replaced with a pronoun.
Children can be changed to They.
You can also replace the peach tree and Sally with the words it and
her.
Your new sentence would say They gave it to her.
On your own sheet of paper, write at least three sentences that
each contain two nouns. Once you have created your sentences,
replace each noun with a pronoun by placing it above the word.
T280
Checking our Writing
• Make sure that all of your sentences begin with a capital
letter and ends with an appropriate end mark.
• Check to make sure you have used pronouns correctly.
• If you need to make changes, remember to use editors’
marks.
• Make your final checks and make sure you have
included all necessary details in the write order.
• Finally, take out, or delete, unnecessary ideas or
information.

Share your final drafts with a classmate.

  • 2. Question of the Day Where do you go to enjoy nature? When I want to enjoy nature, I go to ________ so I can _______. T272
  • 3. Plant It Small, Grow It Tall When they got to the meadow, Jerome and Felicity put down their tote bag. Jerome pulled out a small shovel. Felicity pulled out a small plant in a pot. “Where shall we plant the little peach tree?” she asked Jerome. “Let’s put it over here in the sun,” she answered.
