Macbethprez
1. Heaven
& Hell
As told by William
Shakespeare and
Claire Hoffman WARNING: This is the only
fun part of this entire
presentation, in fact,
after this, it gets
pretty darn
Serious.
serious.
4. Heaven Hell
macduff macbeth

building.” (2.3.67-69) (3.1.72-75)
5. Heaven Hell

Macbeth complains about

Duncan’s dead body he is

and it still doesn’t quench
his thirst for power.
6. When Banquo and
Macbeth find out that
the witches’ predictions
were right, they are
horrified and confused.
“What, can the devil speak true?”
(1.3.107)
“To win us our harm,/ The
instruments of darkness tell us
truths.”
(1.3.124)
7. Macbeth still uses the
advice of the witches
and kills Duncan to
become king.
“Now a man or a woman who is a
medium or a spiritist shall surely be
put to death”
(Leviticus 20:27)
“As for the person who turns to
mediums and spirits, to play the
harlot after them, I will also set My
face against them and will cut him
off from among his people”
(Leviticus 20:6)
9. When Young Siward
dies, Siward says that
it was honorable
because he was
fighting in God’s war.
“Why then, God’s soldier be he! Had I
as many sons as I have hairs,/ I would
not wish them to a fairer death”
(5.8.47-49
10. When Malcolm admits that
he is worried he won’t be a
good king, Macduff tells him
that he could not do worse
than Macbeth, because
Macbeth is the devil
incarnate.
“Not in the legions/ of horrid hell can
come a devil more damn’d/ In evils
to top Macbeth”
(4.3.55-57)
11. Macbeth aligns with the story of
Lucifer, the devil. At first they were
both loyal to their king but due to
greed and thirst for power they
both fell from grace.
12. So why did Shakespeare do this?
There are many possibilities. Maybe he put so
many allusions in his works to help his illiterate
and un-educated audience understand. Maybe
he was trying to sneak in references to the
religious persecution going on at the time.
Or maybe it’s all a part of a complicated
conspiracy involving the invasion of Poland and
invention of Nutella (that’s the one I’m rooting
for.)
13. RECAP
Heaven is good. Macduff represents Heaven.
Hell is bad. Macbeth represents Hell.
I really love Nutella.
Finishing a project late at night is a bad idea,
because they cause pictures like this to appear.
I really, really love Nutella.
