1. INTRODUCTION
On the job training or OJT is one method by which students is
given a chance to apply the theories and computations that they
have learned from the school. It also helps the students to acquire
relevant knowledge and skills by performing in actual work setting.
Colleges and universities require their students to undergo such
training within a specific number of hours as part of the curriculum.
For the students, an OJT or internship program provides
opportunities to go through the actual methodologies of a specific job
using the real tools, equipments and documents. In effect, the
workplace becomes a development venue for a student trainee to
learn more about his chosen field and practice what he has learn
from academy.
On the other hand, an effective OJT program also benefits the
companies who accept trainees. First OJT or intern provides
additional manpower for a lesser labor cost than a regular employee.
Most of them are all eager to learn the ropes so chances are high
that they will cooperate.
1
2. Employers can use this internship strategy as a method in
recruiting new employees. Since the trainer or the supervisor can
follow the trainees’ progress, he can gauge based on performance,
behavior and attitude if the trainee will make a good recruit after the
completion of his internship.
OJT’s can bring fresh ideas into the organization. Given the
opportunity to speak their minds freely and without fear, they maybe
able to contribute significantly in brainstorming sessions or research
and eventually help improve the organizations productivity. While
training the interns, employers are in fact also teaching their
employees to process of guiding the trainees stretches their
patience, develops teaching skills and makes them more sensitive to
the needs and mind set of the younger generation. The course of
supervision also teaches them how to share what they know and be
receptive to questions. Hence, the internship also becomes an
avenue in training for future managers of the company.
Accommodating on-the-job trainees can truly be beneficial not
only to the trainees but also to the companies that provide
2
3. opportunities for this type of learning. There is wisdom in the front
lines. Such training can be an investment that will be valuable to the
company later on. This is also why trainees should take their
internship seriously as it can become a powerful tool and possibly
even a source of recommendation when they take that big lift from
being students to career professionals.
3
4. OBJECTIVES
To learn through experience how to interact and communicate
with people. Knowing how to handle and tackle different issues and
still be diplomatic in both action and words is important.
To provide the essential skills that we need to perform our job in
the future such as being an independent, being responsible to do the
task that the supervisors give to me, to be able to learned and gain
new things and new knowledge, to be able to mingle and know more
about our supervisors, and to be able to improve my skills.

TRENTO NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
Trento, Agusan del Sur
How Trento National High School Emerged
In March, 1970, a Barangay Council Regular Session was
attended by six barangay officials, namely Dioscorro Gayol, Mariano
Alcada, Erene Jaola, Amado Satinitigan, Alberto Sola and Eulalio
Sadugan. The meeting was aptly called to discuss the letter from the
government, offering for a barangay high school in trento. The
meeting was presided over by the Barangay Chairman the late
Ignacio Prochina. When it was presented, half of the officials
attending settled for a No and the remaining three, a Yes. The
reason for their no was because of the availabity already of a private
high school here in trento, the Father Urios Academy.
On the following month, the government called up again and
informed the Council that if the proposal wouldn’t be given
appropriate actions, the offer would be given to another barangay.
5
6. A Special Assembly Meeting was quickly organized at Trento
Central Elementary School in April 1970. It was attended by four
barangay officials and 32 barangay residents. The Barangay
Chairman at that time was absent for he was attending a 4-H Club
meeting at Pasig, Manila and so Atty. Deogracia Espolong, acting as
temporary chairman, presided over the meeting.
The meeting had two primary agenda: 1) to consult the body
about the offer of the government to open a barangay school in
Trento, 2) to accept the offer and support the administration, or not.
After careful deliberation, Council woman Erene Jaula moved
for the acceptance of the offer. It was unanimously approved.
Barangay Resolution No.9, Series of 1970, requested for the
financial support of parents for the tuition fees which were sources of
the teachers’ meager salaries.
That time also, the local government of Trento extended
assistance for some financial support to the school. The sources of
the school’s expected income were 10% of the total of collections of
the Realty Tax collected from the barangay, 5%of the Municipal
share of Bunawan of Realty Tax form the Barangay Trento and 5% of
6
7. the Municipal share of the province of the same taxes plus the
parent’s support.
Barangay Resolution No. 10, Series of 1970, accepted the offer
of the government to establish a community high school in Barangay
Trento, Bunawan, Agusan del Sur.
When the request was granted, enrollment began. The school
was opened on July 17, 1970
There was only one full-time teacher appointed. She was Mrs.
Nene A. Lor. Then she was followed by Necitas V. Logroño
(deceased), and Mrs. Josefina A. Lumanta. This was in 1970-1971.
The enrollees were only 204. There was one section from the first
year and another section from the second year.
In the following year, came Miss Efigenia E. Calvez, Miss Berlin
S. Mipaña,
Mr. Gregorio A. Rances, and Miss Nelita Julao.
Two Years later, they had their first graduation. Due to the
increase of enrollment, the school needed a head teacher. The late
Mr. Jose R. Oasan, who acted as the assistant principal, designates
Miss Nena A. Lor as the teacher in-charge.
7
8. After four years, the students and the teacher were made to
vacate the building they borrowed from Trento Central Elementary
School. They transferred to an unfinished building constructed out of
converted barrio market building. Such building was having
unfinished roofing with its sand and gravel flooring.
They stayed there for a quite number of years. With the
assistance extended by both the barangay and local officials, the
school acquired physical facilities which have also helped improve
the academic achievement of the students.
Today Trento National High School stands as the 3 rd biggest in
population. At present there are 57 teacher headed by a full-pledge
secondary school principal. There are also 1,986 students who are
enjoying the free educational services it is offering. In terms of
building Trento National High School have 26 buildings with 44
academic classrooms.
Trento National High School has now reached 37 long years. It
may have faltered sometimes but through the years, hundreds of
fruitful endeavors have proven that our school is having tremendous
growth and is continuously flourishing.

15
16. PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
Problems that I encountered during my training were all related
to the block outs. Lack of products when assembling computers and
lack of papers when printing documents.
Lack of an Overview, OJT instructors sometimes skip the
overview of the task because they know the job very well, and feel
the trainee should be able to follow their explanation and
demonstration without the first "T" of effective training.
16
17. RECOMMENDATIONS
This presents the entire training period with the activities done
by the trainees. This shows the accomplishments and skills being
enhanced during the internship period that gave them the best
training ground as a beginner.
The trainee’s contribution to the school was helping the
computer laboratory to troubleshoot all computers. I repair and
helping all the projects of the school. The trainee also do such
housekeeping on the times that there is no work. Cleaning all the
parts of System Unit.
I also shared with them new knowledge such as conversion of
units and basic formulas. It would help them to compare the values
using different units and to get values in a simple but accurate way.
The school created a good service to their students and gave
the best training for the students. The students must have a good
company that would give them a good training ground and would
enhance their knowledge and capabilities. The school must have the
17
18. good coordination for some companies that offer an annual On the
Job Training inside their company. The school should provide more
budgets given to the OJT coordinators to have the best monitoring of
the training the students are taking. One of the best ways of training
is the provincial trainings that would give different experiences to the
trainees. An out of town training would give more self esteem to the
students.
