Chris Throgmorton is a former Marine Corps sergeant and California Highway Patrol officer who supports local charities. He was inspired to do so by his experience in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), which teaches strong values to over 2 million youth through outdoor activities and a structured ranking system. One of the most difficult requirements to achieve the highest Boy Scout rank of Eagle is an Eagle Scout Service Project, where the scout plans and leads a volunteer project benefiting their community, demonstrating leadership skills learned through the BSA program.
2. INTRODUCTION
Christopher Michael Throgmorton is a former Sergeant in
the United States Marine Corps and a former California
Highway Patrol officer of distinction. Away from his job,
Christopher “Chris” Michael Throgmorton supports
several local charities, a practice instilled in him during his
training as an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of
America.
The Boy Scouts of America is a national organization
focused on teaching strong values to youth, with an
emphasis on outdoor skills and activities. The Boy Scouts
of America is over 100 years old and has more than 2
million members, not counting volunteers. One draw of
the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is its ranking system, a
highly organized and structured process.
3. THE EAGLE PROJECT
The BSA has seven ranks in total, each increasing in
difficulty, with only 4 percent of Boy Scout members
achieving the highest rank: Eagle. While there are many
requirements for this final honor, one of the largest is the
Eagle Scout Service Project. This project, also colloquially
called the Eagle Project, consists of a volunteer service
project that is created and spearheaded by the scout in
question.
The scout’s project must focus on the health and well-
being of the community. Often an in-depth process, the
Eagle Scout Service Project is the final step in the
leadership training of the BSA before achieving the Eagle
Scout rank.
