a personal level. For example, Christopher
Stender stands out as a supporter of the Florence
Immigrant and Refugee Rights Project.
Since 1989, the Florence Immigrant and Refugee
Rights Project (FIRRP) has helped to protect the
rights of detained immigrants. The project offers
no-cost legal services and social support to some
of the most vulnerable people currently living in
the United States, and it depends on volunteer
and donor support to do so.

meeting or paperwork submission for a person in
need, while continuing donations support such
services on a regular basis.
Legal professionals can also contribute their valuable
time as volunteer researchers, interpreters,
witnesses, or administrators. Pro bono attorneys are
particularly welcome and receive thorough training on
the types of cases they will encounter. Persons
outside the legal profession may also volunteer as
hosts of public education seminars or as members of
the Detention Watch Network, which connects and
helps to mobilize activists for detainee rights across
the country.
