Born in 1933, Cal Collins began his guitar
career by copying Art Tatum and other jazz
pianists he heard on the radio.

3.  He developed his talent and played
professionally in Cincinnati, Ohio, and
Indiana for more than 20 years before
joining the Benny Goodman band in 1976.
Regarded as the best-known jazz guitarist to
emerge from the Cincinnati area, Collins
later signed a contract with Concord
Records, where he recorded several
albums as a sideman and as a featured
soloist. His discography includes Cincinnati
to LA, By Myself, Cross Country, and S’Us
Four, his final recording, released in 1998.
