for assessing a sustainability performance of buildings there are many (commercial) tools and programs available in the market (like BREEAM, DGNB, HQE, etc.). The programs quantify the sustainability performance and may value this performance, set benchmarks and may present the outcome by rating the performances. National regulators or private clients may set performance requirements on the sustainability performance of buildings (works in general) but then also have to assign a methodology for measuring the performance. The assigned methodology for calculation may be limited to a calculation method (based on the European CEN CT350 standards), or may assign one of the commercial tools that then may include benchmarking and rating. At present (2013) we see that more and more commercial tools are implementing the CEN TC350 standards. Applying these standards allow communicating results across Europe and using product data from products assessed in a harmonised methodology (EN15804 based).
