Christopher J. Berno
Chris Berno, co-founder and CEO at VRoom is a
highly collaborative and results oriented leader of
people, process and technology. He has been on the
cutting edge of the technology sector since joining
OmniSky Corp, a San Francisco based start-up and
pioneer of wireless data applications back in 1999.
After OmniSky’s acquisition by Earthlink in 2002, Chris
was recruited to lead ecommerce and web support
operations at BarnesandNoble.com in Manhattan.
There he helped to define, structure and lead the
implementation of standards, systems and workflows
for online sales and support. At that time in history,
Amazon was was aggressively expanding its offering
away from “just books” while B&N adopted the notion
that “people won’t buy a toaster where they buy books”. Seeing the writing on the wall Chris sought to
align with a more forward thinking senior leadership team and in 2004 joined Florida based Affinity
Internet where he oversaw technical infrastructure development, professional services and omni-channel
customer service and technical support.
At Affinity, Chris developed a passion for helping businesses leverage emerging technology that remains
his driving force today. He lead Product Development, Marketing and Sales teams to better package,
market price and communicate the benefits of cloud hosting technologies in ways that truly resonated with
small business. As a result of these product and infrastructure improvements, Affinity was able to close
channel partner deals with Costco, eBay, Comcast and SAP, increase the install customer based, reduce
churn and drive monthly top line revenues across all business lines. Top line revenue growth, up trending
customer satisfaction and lean operations drove valuation and lead to the successful acquisition of Affinity
Internet in 2007. By request of the new owners Chris stayed on to help with the technical and human
resource transition and aggressively lead global expansion of the newly integrated operations centers.
During that time Chris worked as an expat building infrastructure from the ground up in Sofia, Bulgaria
and facilitating a truly global technical operations network spanning 3 Countries and over 300 staff
members worldwide.
In 2013 Chris returned home to South Florida and started technical operations consulting for the hosting
industry working with leaders to apply LEAN and AGILE operating principles and transition their cost
centers into customer focused innovation ecosystems. Chris served tech companies ranging from early
stage startups with zero revenue to established IT firms with >$10M USD revenue and enterprise
companies with >$1B USD revenue such as Los Angeles based DreamHost. His passion for leveraging
technology lead him to building a friendship and business relationship with his co-founder Victor Nappe in
2013 and in March 2016, Chris stopped consulting to focus his energy solely on the launch of Vroom
Technology, Inc with Victor.
Strategic forward thinking has lead Chris to speak at conferences on the topic of “Future Proofing” your
business. His most recent speaking engagement was to a group of nonprofit CEOs in November 2016
and he takes a lot of pride in energizing leaders to think differently about how technology can solve
problems and free them up to be more creative and focus on what’s really important to them. Chris’s love
of “what’s next” spans more business, it’s a lifestyle. Membership at the World Future Society, a self
proclaimed “bio-hacker” and holder of several FAA ratings including Commercial Pilot are all ways he
incorporates technology into everyday life.
