Quick and exact informations are one of the important needs of the community in disaster mitigation. During the eruption of Mount Merapi in 2010 the trend among the community of Mount Merapi Disaster Prone Areas was to seek accurate informations about what was going on.
The development of information technology brings changes in communication patterns. The global trend is to think about how social media can offer a wider dissemination of information. Mount Merapi disaster information through social media can reduce the structural gap between state institutions and local communties to enhance the rapidity of response in case of eruption.
It is necessary to think about the link between social media and social community network to establish a mechanism for information dissemination in which information from state agency can reach all levels of society and communities in disaster prone area in order to use it as an early warning system.
