2. Photograph against a plain background
• Having a plain background when photographing is extremely important
because it allows you to manipulate what is being photographed better. By
having the background plain and a different colour to the thing/person
being photographed allows us to isolate them and make them the main
focus.
3. Positioning
• It is important to focus on the positioning of the object being photographed.
We need to ensure that we direct the model to move as opposed to the
camera. Additionally we need to think about where we want the model in
terms of positioning as the main image for both poster and magazine
cover is usually of the main character. We will need to decide on pose,
body language and facial expressions in order to portray the character in
the way we want them to be represented in order to promote the film.
4. Lenses
• In order to get the most high quality photos we may use prime of 50mm lens, which
has narrow depth of field and selective focus making it good for images as it is
sharper than the zoom lens.
• We need to ensure that we get the right height when taking photos, the best portraits
are taken at eye-level, therefore we may have to bend down or use a step in order
to get the correct height. A tripod may even be useful when taking these photos.
• Portraits also tend to have intense focus on the eyes of the character therefore they
are usually medium close ups or close ups so that the eyes dominate the image.
5. Lighting
• When taking the photos for the magazine cover and film poster it is
important that we use the appropriate lighting in order to create the
preferred atmosphere and moods. We want realistic lighting that isn’t too
flat so that we don’t lose depth. Additionally for our film specifically we
may want slight shadows in order to give a sense of mystery. To do this we
could use just one light or we could slightly manipulate then traditional 3
point lighting method.
