Internet Censorship in the UAE… is it acting
against freedom or is it serving for the
betterment of the local community?

4. Research Purpose
 To develop explanations to better understand the
situation of the local society’s attitudes
 To examine the different point of views of anti-
censorship and pro-censorship advocates of this
controversial phenomenon.

 Selected Approach: Qualitative
 Method : Focus Group
 Data Collection:
Two Focus Groups( males & females)
Eight locals Seven international students
( currently studying at AUS)

7. Findings- Local Focus
group
Do you think that internet censorship is acting against
freedom of choice or whether it is serving for the
betterment of the UAE community?
 5 out of 8 participants said “serving for the
betterment of the UAE community”
 3 out of 8 participant said “acting against freedom
of choice”

8. Findings- International Focus
group
 4 out of 7 participants said “serving for the
betterment of the UAE community”
 3 out of 7 participants said “acting against
freedom of choice”

9. Conclusion
 Internet Censorship is a strong body that
serves for the betterment of the nation
as a whole
