It’s My Life is an answer to the student’s quest for life to make sense… It’s My Life is Board approved by the Ventura Unified School District and has been presented over 40 times to teachers and administrators throughout the state of California

1. It’s My Life Program: short explanation
1. Education for the masses is at best a work-in-progress.
2. Even when you factor in private, parochial, charter, and home schooling much is
left out.
3. Part of the dilemma is what really is the teacher’s role?
4. Of course you could strictly state, instruction, but would that cover all that a
teacher does/is expected to do/must attempt?
5. No, it would not.
6. Teacher is a hybrid = instructor, negotiator, counselor, mandated court reporter,
peace-maker, parent figure, confessor, sounding board, defender of logic, etc.
7. In the 12+years that our children go to school, there are many benchmarks that
they “should achieve”. (need to)
8. And at the end, when graduation is near, we sigh a collective sigh of relief
because we have helped get them through 5-18, give or take….???
9. Now they get to “choose” with the guidance of parent, counselors, peers, school,
community, media what they will do for the next step – college, trades, military,
arts, floundering (or)
10. And then It’s My Life Program was developed and evolved….
11. What is It’s My Life? IML is that bold, new intervention/course that can be
inserted in freshman-senior year that fosters critical thinking, logic, common
sense, asking questions, decision-making, maturity, problem-solving, and
planning, positive mental attitude, and centering to the student’s life.
12. It has been referred to as the “missing link” in the educational process because it
addresses issues and things all students would like to know (even if they don’t
know that they don’t know) in order to better navigate the path in front of them.
13. Through a course that is either stand-alone or supplemental, students have the
opportunity to arm themselves with tools that aid in creating a better roadmap for
their journey into their life.
14. The course is interactive and allows the student to question different aspects of
life and through acknowledgement, reading, discussing, brainstorming, writing,
and solving problems, a level of comfort and/or a desire to proceed further occurs.

Has received numerous funds that help with materials, workshops, teacher
training stipends, technology
Has been endorsed by numerous educators and those supportive of
education
Has been endorsed by the Court system to employ with juvenile offenders
Over 850 students have benefited from this program.
Is being presented to the NEA as a program that makes a difference
