research methods applicable in education; and
• Conduct simple research activity following the
scientific methods of research in relation to one’s
field of specialization.
Introduction
The role of a teacher in the 21st
century is different from what it was 10
or many years ago.The teacher is
challenges not only in the area of
instruction but in field relevant to
instruction such as research, extension
and publication.

hypothetical propositions..(Kerlinger 1972)

Research Exposure: A Teacher’s Edge in the 21st Century

At the end of this Module, the learners should be to able to: • Identify the characteristics and qualities of a teacher as a research professional; • Discuss concepts about research and the different research methods applicable in education; and • Conduct simple research activity following the scientific methods of research in relation to one’s field of specialization.

Research ConceptsDefinition of Research • Systematic, controlled, empirical and critical investigation of hypothetical propositions..(Kerlinger 1972) • A purposive, systematic and scientific process of gathering, analyzing, classifying, organizing, presenting and interpreting data.( Calderon and Gonzales, 1993) • Process of gathering data or information to solve a particular/ scientific problem. (Halpin, 1996) • Collection of data in a rigorously controlled situation for prediction or explanation. (Quinton, 2006)

  • 12. Research ConceptsAccording to choice of answers to problems: Evaluation Research- possible actions are identified and used as bases in making decisions
  • 13. Research ConceptsAccording to Statistical Content: Quantitative- used of statistical or inferential statistics to determine the results. Qualitative- data are analyzed rationally not statistically.
  • 14. Research ConceptsAccording to Time Element: Historical Research- whole truth of past events Descriptive Research- present conditions and understand nature, characteristics, components and aspects of phenomenon.
  • 15. Research ConceptsResearch Process Steps: 1. Problem Identification- choice of the researcher based on the researcher’s interest, current issues, moral or legal impediments. 2. Literature Review- concepts or theoretical frameworks of the planned research. 3. Research Design- procedure of planning and carrying out the research. 4. Data Collection- method of gathering data to provide information. 5. Data presentation, analysis and interpretation- manner of organizing, collecting and analyzing/interpreting data. 6. Formulation of implications and conclusions -brief statements based on the findings of the study.
