MLK OBSERVANCE:
The Warrior Transition Battalion will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day observance 12 p.m., Friday, Jan. 18 at
Moon Theater. The theme of the event is "The Life of a King: a Day On not a Day Off", and the Honorable Al
Williams, 165th District Georgia State Representative, will be the special guest. This event is open to the
public.
NCO AND SOLIDER OF THE QUARTER
The Deputy Commanding General-Rear and the Senior Command Sergeant Major of the 3rd Infantry Division
would like to congratulate the winners of the 3rd Infantry Division Non-Commissioned Officer and Soldier of
the Quarter Board for the 4th Quarter, FY13. Sergeant Micah E. Chabo, Charlie Company, 3rd BSB, 1ABCT,
was selected as the NCO of the Quarter and Specialist Nancy J. Cardoza, 473rd Quartermaster Company, 3rd
Sustainment Brigade, was selected as the Soldier of the Quarter. If you see these outstanding Soldiers,
congratulate them on a job well done!
SEW SHOP CLOSURE:
In observance of Martin Luther King Day, the Sew Shop on Fort Stewart and HAAF will be closed 18 - 21

NEW HOURS OF OPERATION AT STEWART FITNESS CENTERS, Jan. 28:
New hours of operation will take effect Jan. 28 at Newman, Caro and Jordan fitness centers on Fort Stewart.
Effective on that date, Newman will extend its hours until 9 p.m. Monday-Friday; Caro will open at 5 a.m.
Monday-Friday; and Jordan will be closed on weekends. 4 IBCT Fitness Center is not affected by the changes.

8 FOR 8 BOWLING LEAGUE AT STEWART LANES, Jan. 19-Mar. 9:
Eight for Eight Bowling League is open for kids (ages 4-12) from 10 a.m.-noon Saturdays, starting Jan.19 at
Stewart Lanes Bowling Center, Bldg. 450. Children bowl two games per week and at end of program receive a
free bowling ball. Cost of $8 per week covers shoe rental, instructional fees, equipment, one-year membership

NFL CHAMPIONSHIP FOOTBALL AT ROCKY’S ZONE, Jan. 20:
Watch the AFC and NFC Championship games Jan. 20 at Rocky’s Zone, where there’s no charge for
admission and there’s not a bad seat in the house. The Baltimore Ravens and New England Patriots battle for
the AFC title. The San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons play for the NFC championship. Winners play in

MANAGED HOG HUNT REGISTRATION:
Register until Jan. 27 for tree-stand managed hog hunt scheduled Feb. 2 by FMWR. Apply at Stewart Pass &
Permit Office, Bldg. 8093, or Hunter Pass & Permit, Bldg. 1286. Hunt is for Active Duty and Retirees. Fifty
slots available, with five reserved for Military Retirees. Participants will be chosen in lottery type drawing 2

HUNTER AEROBIC-THON & HEALTH FAIR, Jan. 26:
Aerobic-Thon on Jan. 26 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at Tominac Fitness Center, Bldg. 919 will showcase aerobic
classes taught by certified instructors. Styles include kick-boxing, step, Zumba, and more. Health Fair portion
features nutrition consultation, body composition testing, blood pressure and blood glucose screenings and

FITNESS CENTERS TO STOP PROVIDING WORK-OUT TOWELS, Feb. 1:
Family and MWR’s fitness facilities at Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield will stop providing work-out
towels for its patrons beginning Feb. 1. Although an inconvenience for customers, the change will result in a
reduction in water consumption that will significantly contribute to overall Stewart/Hunter conservation goals,
and cost savings that will allow basic programming and customer service to be maintained or increased at each
center.
FREEDOM TRAIL TOUR, Feb. 9:

MARDI GRAS MASQUERADE BASH AT THUNDER RUN, Feb. 8:

YOUTH SOCCER, TRACK & FIELD SIGN-UPS through Feb. 15:
Fort Stewart Youth Sports will enroll Track & Field (ages 7-14 as of March 1) and soccer (ages 4-13 as of Dec.

3. FACEBOOK EDUCATION FORUM, Feb. 21:
The first DoDEA/Liberty Co Schools Facebook Education Forum is scheduled Feb. 21 from 5-6 p.m.
Representatives from the schools will answer school-related questions on a variety of topics. Fort Stewart
CYSS/School Liaison Office invites all interested parties to be a part of the forum. Additional details will be

MARNE TAX CENTER TIP FOR THE WEEK:
Under certain circumstances, contributions to a traditional individual retirement account (IRA) can be tax-
deductible in the year you make them.
There may be a cap on how much of your contributions are deductible. If you qualify, contributing to an IRA
can be a great way to reduce this year's tax bill. Furthermore, you can deduct contributions made all the way
until tax filing day (April 15). Call the Marne Tax Center for more information at (912) 767-1040. The Tax

CG'S GREEN TO GOLD:
3rd ID and tenant unit Soldiers interested in competing for the Commanding General’s Green to Gold Hip
Pocket Scholarship Program will submit a nomination packet to their unit S-1. Completed nomination packets
are due to the MSE G-1 NLT Feb. 1. The CG, 3ID will consider nominations and forward the FSGA
nominations to Cadet Command by 1 Apr 13. Eligibility requirements are located in the MOI at

Kick off 2013 right by attending ACS’s Resiliency Training for Family members, Couples and DA Civilians.

p.m. Learn how Bart Simpson, Rocky Balboa and Winnie the Pooh are tied to Resiliency and why these

FREE ENTRANCE DAYS IN THE NATIONAL PARKS:
Martin Luther King, Jr. Day kicks off the first round of free entrance days in U.S. National Parks in 2013. All
park entrance fees will be waived for 11 days in 2013. National Park Service fee-free dates in 2013 are Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday), National Park Week (April 22-26), the National Park Service’s Birthday
(August 25), National Public Lands Day (Sept. 28), and the weekend of Veterans Day (Nov. 9-11). More
information on free entrance days in the National Parks can be found at

live performance will celebrate the completion of the 1,500 hill-side, grass seating venue (bring your own

key role in the organization of the American Freedom Festival, an annual concert that benefits U.S. veterans.
