Our school participates in a U.S. – China High School Students Exchange program this year. You are selected to go to China as an exchange student
which means you will live with your Chinese host family and attend a Chinese school for a year. You will leave the familiar behind and immerse yourself into a whole different world. I am sure this will be one of the most challenging and rewarding experience in your life, as you can gain a real understanding of another country and its culture and society, but at the same time, find out something new about your own culture and point of view by seeing it from a fresh perspective.
In order to adjust your life in China faster and better, you should be familiar with the Chinese culture, holiday, food and customs before you leave. This week, the task of your team is to explore China from one of the following aspects:Traditional Chinese Holidays China Tourist Attractions: Cities and Tourist Hot SpotsLiving in ChinaStudying in China
Mission: We are going to work together to create a Foreign Exchange Student Guide to Chinaby Wikispaces. This is our website link: uschinaexchange.wikispaces.com
Remember this is the CLASS wiki. Make sure when you are editing or making additions/subtractions to the wiki that you are doing it to YOUR work. If you see something wrong with someone else’s work or have a suggestion, be sure to tell that person and let them make the changes. Remember, only change YOUR work!Remember, this is school work. Please only add content that is related to school work. No obscene or vulgar items added to the wiki will be tolerated.
Wikis are collaborative. Each person brings their strengths and contributes things that they are good at to the project. Graphics are used as needed and add to the message. Graphics are not distracting and used where needed to further explain a topic. If does not look cluttered. A table of contents is used, headings and underlines are used appropriately. An effective wiki hyperlinks sources and gives readers additional information about the topic. Because most people tend to not trust wikis (they don't know the authors), you must include a variety of hyperlinks to be considered an effective source of information. As people follow your hyperlinks, they will begin to look at the information you've linked to. They will learn that you are an authority and that you've "done your homework." Make sure that you have checked your hyperlinks and that they work. The effective wiki summarizes information but never copies it! (Cite your sources.) The wording is intelligent and meaningful. Wikis may be read by a global audience and authors must keep that in mind.
