5. • Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, doing business as Jio, is a LTE mobile
network operator in India
• It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Reliance Industries headquartered
in Mumbai, that provides wireless 4G LTE service network (without 2G/3G
based services) and is the only 100% VoLTE operator in the country, with
coverage across all 22 telecom circles in India.
• The services were first beta-launched to Jio's partners and employees on
27 December 2015 on the eve of 83rd birth anniversary of late Dhirubhai
Ambani, founder of Reliance Industries, and later services were
commercially launched on 5 September 2016

4. Jio apps- In May 2016, Jio launched a bundle of multimedia apps
on Google Play as part of its upcoming 4G services. While the apps are
available to download for everyone, a user will require a Jio SIM card to
use them. Additionally, most of the apps are in beta phase. Following is a

7. What’s reliance’s strategy behind
this?
• Mukesh Ambani finally acknowledges the universal truth –
globally consumers pay for either calls and texts, or data –
they don’t pay for both. This universal truth helps establish a
new industry norm in reliance’s policies. Mukesh also said
Reliance is going to charge 1/10thof the standard in
telecommunications charges.

such a manner that, though Jio is new entrant but

2 lac villages across nation
Jio is aiming to cover around 90 percent of India
upto March, 2017. Reliance Jio has target of
having around 1 million of Wi-fi hotspots till the
mid of 2017 and tariffs provide user to have extra
data at Wi-fi hotspots.

10. Promotion
Reliance Jio has undertaken an aggressive marketing strategy to
create positive brand awareness. It has launched ad campaigns on
television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and billboards and social
media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and
YouTube. Reliance Jio knows the importance of star power and has
roped in several celebrities to act in its commercials and become
associated with its brand.
At its launch party celebrities like Rajkumar Hirani, Javed Jaffrey, AR
Rehman and Ranbir Kapoor were invited along with its brand
ambassadors Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh khan. As part of
promotional activities Reliance, Jio offered free internet Wi-Fi
services at six cricket stadiums during ICC World Twenty20 and each
and every one of its services free till the end of the financial year
2016.

extended for another three months later as a
special offer.
