Only 0.007% of the total water on Earth is available for drinking by humans. Several factors are leading to increasing water scarcity such as climate change, rising temperatures, less rainfall, population growth, and urbanization. In the near future, water scarcity could reduce life expectancy to 40 years and people may have to sell their possessions to afford clean water that is protected by armed forces. Possible measures to address water scarcity include canal lining, improved dam management, scientific water management, awareness campaigns, and controlling water pricing.
