work together,
 Forward team
 Aft team
 Bridge personnel
These three parties
must work together and
communicate effectively.

4. During the planning of the mooring
operation, some aspects should be
considered:
 The nature of the berth where the vessel will make
fast
 The availability of quayside bollards
 The expected environment conditions during the stay,
including the height of tide
 The windage area of the vessel

 Whether tugs will be required
 How the vessel is expected to come alongside and the
order of the lines
 Whether own vessel or other vessels will be double-
banking alongside

the intended berthing
plan with the officer in
charge, who will then
inform with a detailed
briefing to all the crew
members involved.

• The personnel experience
• Size and number of lines
• Line handlers
• Winch operators

have PPE and should
be trained.
If there are junior
inexperienced crew
members, they should
be supervised during
the operation.

dangerous areas
(snapback zone)
when performing
the mooring
operation.
