• Cultural shock
• Discover myself: brave
Dislike HK lifestyle;
then learn Cantonese: the key to higher identification with host culture, learn HK culture from the language (new trendy words and old-fashioned words;
am able to communicate with local people & better immersed into HK, be more confident about myself,
Then is more willing to visit different places, such as the islands, join voluntary work and contact people from different contexts, read newspaper
Sporty: best rugby team; love doing sports: jogging, cycling, go playing golf every weekend; love watching all kinds of sports: golf, soccer, netball, rugby, tennis,
clothes, food, housing, Transportation,
Was discriminated for being a Chinese; strange why target on Chinese but not Asian or Korean;
Reflections:
experience racism by myself the first time and understand how it feels to be stereotyped by appearance: hurt, anger, ridiculous ;
If the city is economically better developed, then the citizens get more chances to contact people from various countries and are more open to diversity.
discover my nationality as a choice-able part of identity but ethnicity as a choiceless part;
avoid stereotypes: not every kiwi is good / friendly; learn to accept other cultures and avoid judging people if I don’t know anything about him
