2. • The key learners in this project are the
teachers/lecturers and guidance counsellors/
student support staff who work in with adults
in lifelong learning programmes.
3. Key Terms
Adults:
Anybody over 18 returning to formal education to pursue a national qualification, having left or not
having had the opportunity to progress their studies
Second chance education:
Those who, for any reason, have dropped out of secondary education and later on returned to get the
secondary level
Dropout:
Someone starting a formal national qualification, as an adult, and has not completed ( for any reason)
this qualification
5. • To decrease – at an European level – the
number of dropouts among adult learners
• To increase retention (success) among adults
who return to 2nd chance education
• To share teachers /guidance professional
experience regarding dropout
6. • To develop common pedagogical methods for
adult educators to improve retention
• To develop training courses and modules on
retention /dropout to be delivered for all
involved in teacher training
