This newsletter provides highlights from the first week of the All People CDF Freedom School summer program. Scholars focused on making a difference in themselves by learning about role models who overcame obstacles. They also began the process of voter registration in preparation for Freedom School elections to choose class representatives. Upcoming events include continued voter registration, a field trip to COSI, a parent meeting, and additional field trips to the Franklin Park Conservatory and Columbus Zoo.

2. Voter Registration &
Freedom Schools Elections
This is a big summer for democracy! All People CDF
Freedom School is getting the scholars educated and ex-
cited about VOTING every Thursday! We will be hosting
our very own Freedom Schools Election to choose two
representatives from each classroom, starting with voter
registration and scholar nominations.
During Week 1, we will be concentrating on voter reg-
istration, as that is the first step in utilizing our right to
vote as American citizens. On Thursday, scholars will fill
out a simple voter registration form (with name, age,
and date of birth) and turn it in to the Elections Board
(the SLIs) so that they can receive their voter registra-
tion card and be eligible to nominate a fellow classmate
in Week 2. This exercise will teach the students about
the importance of ALL the steps in the election process.
