Executive summary:
The current capacity of pentaerythritol is XXXt/a in China and the output is XXXtonnes in China in
2009, increasing by XXX% over 2008. Hebei Xinhua put into production in Aug. 2009 with capacity
of XXXt/a. Jiangsu Ruiyang and Henan Puyang are expanding their capacity at present.

Meanwhile Guizhou Crystal and Shandong Gloden Yimeng are idled producers. The total
operating rate is a little lower than that in 2008.
The quality of Chinese pentaerythritol has improved significantly, and the product structure
adjustment will continue. The middle-grade and high-grade monopentaerythritol will dominate and
dipentaerythritol production will increase dramatically in the near future. This product structure is
better to comply with the increasing market demand and export.
In 2009, thanks to China's economic stimulus plan and a series of policies to encourage domestic
consumption, Chinese economy has realized fast growth in 2009. With demand of pentaerythritol
in coatings increasing fast thanks to the great developing architecture and automobile industries in
China in 2009, the consumption of pentaerythritol increased by XXX% than in 2008 and the
market share of alkyd resin rised in 2009. Alkyd resin is still the top consumption field accounting
for XXX% total consumption volume in China. Other consumption fields such as polyurethane and
rosin resins are also developing fast.
Overseas market is important for domestic producers. Export accounted for XXX% of the total
output in 2009. In 2009, the total import volume of pentaerythritol was XXX tonnes near to 2008.
But the export volume in 2009 is XXX tonnes which is reduced XXX tonnes than 2008, decreasing
by XXX%.
The price of pentaerythritol kept stable in the first half of 2008, but it has sharply decreased since
the financial crisis broke out in Aug. 2008. The price kept rising slowly in 2009 ,and in May 2010 it
still remains rising.
The technology has little improvement in recent years. And most producers adopt domestic
technology which is mature and little different compared with overseas technology.
