1. Our Mission
To provide for the education of children and
adolescents who are hospitalised.
2. WHO WE ARE
• A Hospital school operating within
Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital,
Crumlin. It is one of two tertiary
hospitals in Dublin.
• We operate as a separate entity to the
hospital under the mandate of the
Department of Education and Skills.
• Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital,
Crumlin operates 233 beds.
• We aim to provide a high quality
education service - appropriate,
holistic and customised.
3. WHO WE TEACH
Pupils between 4 - 18 years who are
• In-patients
• Patients or their siblings who reside
in hospital owned accommodation
• Repeat day-patients
• Siblings of patients when there is no
alternative available
• Patients from the hospital attending
other hospitals for treatment

5. WHERE WE TEACH
• Primary Classroom 10am
to 12am
• Post-Primary Classroom
12.50pm to 2.40pm
• 1:1 bedside teaching
9.30am to 2.40pm
6. NUMBERS
• 65% Primary and 35% Secondary
• On average we have 75-85 potential
students in the hospital daily.
• We operate on a 10:1 pupil teacher
ratio.
• Together with the principal, we have
5 primary trained teachers and 2
post primary trained.
• We have one SNA who works in both
classroom sessions and on the wards.

Our Lady’s Hospital School and Temple Street Hospital
School are due to amalgamate.
9. WELL BEING
• Try to focus on high interest,
creative, hands on learning
experiences.
• Encourage social games and
incorporate a break time into
the classroom session.
• Place an emphasis on group
work in our classroom sessions.
• Liaise with base school to
maintain social connections.
