2. About Bob Brown Bob Brown was born in 1944, and graduated from Sydney University with a degree in medicine in 1968. As a life long environmental activist, in 1982, he became the Director of the Wilderness Society and was jailed for 19 days while organising a blockade of dam work in Franklin River. As soon as he was released he was elected as the first green into the Tasmanian Parliament. In 1995, he was jailed again for a demonstration against logging. A year later, he was elected to the Australian Senate, and the following years he was re-elected with 17.74% of the senate vote. Bob Brown was the first gay member of the Australian Parliament.
