- Elearning is often seen to contain content and practices transferred directly from f2f teaching. This is not surprising given that faculty may not have first-hand knowledge of the tools and possibilities available in the online environment. The alternative: This collaborative session will look at creating ideas for faculty, independent of technology skills and LMS, that will encourage explorations of alternative solutions to the cut-and-paste ecourse. The starting premise for the three Rs is R educe workload, R e-purpose content, and R efresh design.
- Workload is a contentious issue in both the development and delivery elements of elearning. It is hoped to document effective strategies to reduce workload. How can we help in the design of elearning? how can faculty control workload during the running of an ecourse? Turn to your partner – small group activity for issues/solutions Turn to your partner activity – depending on size of audience for issues then again for solutions.
- The delivery of content can take advantage of the media rich environment of the web to engage students. At the same time, there is the need to consider what has to be delivered and what can be “uncovered” by our learners through student centred learning. It is hoped this delivery v uncovering tension will stimulate a vibrant discussion.
- Look and feel are important aspects of usability and engagement in elearning. A LMS may create a standardised framework for an ecourse but within that framework it is anticipated that participants will suggest ideas that will enhance communication and clarity.
