Thanks and welcome to this quick induction course. Cashes Green is a project by Haboakus - a residential developer which aims to build homes that are: enjoyable, well-designed, community-focussed and sustainable. The project is being built according to the One Planet Living principles – this is a sustainability framework which offers a way to plan, deliver and communicate sustainable development.Markey Construction has an established record in sustainability, and on this project we have agreed to introduce everyone who works on the project to the principles behind One Planet Living. We are asking everyone who works on the site to commit to helping us deliver a high quality, sustainable development that fits the OPL framework – and is on time and on budget!
Essentially, here in the UK, we are using resources and producing pollution as though we had three planets to draw on. Clearly we don’t. The One Planet Living Framework is focused on the triple bottom line of sustainability: society, environment and economy, and it tries to give us some practical ways of addressing that three-planet problem. Because buildings – how they are built and how they are used - account for almost half of our environmental impact as I mentioned, the construction industry is a great place to start.
