The Work In the Triangle initiative was born in 2011 after an analysis by Development Counselors International to determine a fresh way to promote the Triangle to prospective talent.
The analysis was prompted by rumblings in the community from business saying that there needed to be a solid resource to promote the region specifically to talent
At the time of the study the Research Triangle region was projected to grow by 78% in two decades, still on track to do that
In over 40 interview conducted with top executives in the region, it was learned that companies are still struggling to fill positions quickly ranging from low to high skilled positions.

We’ve had some excellent national coverage showcasing local startup success stories:
Huffington Post – “Here’s How ‘Invent In-Place’ Is Bringing Big Ideas From Smaller Cities”
The piece highlights Raleigh as a top place outside Silicon Valley where "smart minds and smart money are creating value and economic growth while 'inventing in-place." The article specifically features NC State startup, Trakex:
"I had the opportunity to see this heads-down approach recently in Raleigh, NC, to meet with the super-impressive founders of Trakex, an in-motion cargo dimensioning solution with the potential to disrupt the trucking industry's current pricing model - with a current market opportunity of $1.8 billion."
Entrepreneur – “What Entrepreneurship Taught One Married Couple About Partnership”
Raleigh Denim Workshop was featured in Entrepreneur in a story titled "What Entrepreneurship Taught One Married Couple About Partnership." The story was also featured in the "Young Millionaires: The Next Generation Has Arrived" Sept. print issue of Entrepreneur.
The piece showcases Raleigh Denim's entrepreneurial journey in Raleigh and how they came to clear $2 million in revenue last year.
The founders, Victor and Sarah, highlight Raleigh's makers scene, talking about how their company has been able to remain craft-orientated without having to stay old school, and that they are "finding people in Raleigh who want to work with their hands and make things."
CNNMoney – “Shipping Containers Turned Into Mobile Tech Labs”
CNNMoney featured Raleigh startup Betabox in a story titled "Shipping containers turned into mobile tech labs."
The story showcases Raleigh's vibrant startup scene and strong focus on innovation and STEM education through a local entrepreneurial success story.
Maroni, 24, is founder and CEO of Raleigh-based Betabox, a business whose premise is to inspire innovation, especially among schoolkids.
Most public schools lack funds to offer students a full-time lab filled with expensive tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, scanners and electronics to design and build prototypes of cool ideas.
Betabox tackles that challenge. "It's as if you snap your fingers and a fully-stocked tech lab arrives," he said.
Betabox's mobile labs are built inside refurbished shipping containers and have been retrofitted to include things like whiteboards, laptops and CNC milling machines.
Since the story placement, Betabox has seen:
a 6x surge in web traffic
benefitted from 15,000 social media impressions
received 4 qualified requests for partnerships or franchise opportunities from other cities
31 new accounts created on their site
