Ancillary text research posters
1. Ancillary Text Research-
Gangster Film Posters
While I am creating my trailer, I have also been researching for my ancillary text production.
The first ancillary text I will need to produce is a gangster movie poster, so I looked at a few
posters such as the ones above and tried to spot the similarities and different conventions
that are common in most gangster movie posters.
The similarities I have noticed are:
Common colours that are used are black, white and red.
The background of the poster tends to be black and the title and text are written in white.
The extra text on the poster tends to be on the bottom of the poster and the title is placed on
preference.
The images used on the posters are commonly of the main characters and are placed on the
middle section of the poster.
The fonts for the titles are quite sharp, formal and bold in appearance, which also kind of
represents a gangster film in away.
While creating my film poster I am going to try to use these elements to create a professional
looking poster that represents my trailer really well.
