1. ASSURE Method Assignment
A (Analyze Learners)
The learners are a 1st grade special education classroom, containing 10 boys and 7 girls. 70% of
the class is white, 20% is African American, and 10% Latino. There are 7 students in the class
that has mild to severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. There are various learning
styles in the classroom ranging from extremely hands on or kinesthetic, auditory, and visual
learners. Do not assume the students know the months from their previous year of school. Also
do not assume that they have not learned the months before. The students should be tested
on their previous knowledge of the months to find a good starting point.
S (State objectives)
The 1st grade special education students will develop knowledge all of the months in order. The
students will do this through different methods including singing a song of the months and
categorizing cards with pictures that are associated with the months such as holidays and
weather. The students should understand the months in order within a week at 90% accuracy.
Students will spend 20 minutes in the morning and 20 minutes in the evening going over the
months.
S (Select the 3 M’s)
Method- The methods being used to teach the students the months in order are as stated
before. A song stating the months in order will be used with the auditory learners in mind.
Cards with pictures that are associated with the months will be used with the visual and
kinesthetic learners in mind.
Media- The media being used to teach the months of the year to the students will be still
images, flip card, and audio in the form of song.
Materials- The flip cards will be made by teacher and students in class and the audio will be
created by the teacher and performed by the students.
U (Utilize Media and Materials)
Preview the material checking the song day before the lesson to avoid any technical difficulties.
Prepare the environment by making sure the pictures and paper to make the flip cards are in
area known by the teacher so can get them at any moment needed. Prepare the learners by
playing the song to improve motivation. Provide a learning experience by making it as fun as
possible.
Require Learner Participation
2. Receive feedback from the students on what they have learned from the day of instruction. It
is also important to make sure each student is participating.
Evaluate and Revise
Asses the students on their success through the usage or worksheets and through oral
communication. Make any changes needed to the lesson to make it more suitable for the
students. Continue to give positive feedback to keep the students motivated and excited about
their work.
